  • The event’s organizers revealed 14 out of the 16 invited teams to the event
  • Nigma Galaxy and Entity are arguably the most prominent names
  • Echpo4mak will be comprised of media personalities whose names will be revealed soon

Games of Future’s Dota 2 tournament will see 16 squads from around the globe compete for a slice of the $1 million prize pool.

Organizers Reveal Teams

We are less than a month away from the start of Games of the Future 2024, an international multi-game tournament set to be held in the Russian city of Kazan. Of the games to be played at the event, Dota 2 takes a prominent spot and many teams from around the globe have been invited to take part.

Recently, the official VK handle of the tournament revealed more organizations that will participate in Games of the Future 2024, which means 14 out of the 16 teams to compete in the Dota 2 tournament are already known. So far, these are: One Move (Phygital Games 1), Hydra (Phygital Games 2), Invictus Gaming, LGD Gaming, Xtreme Gaming, Azure Ray, Beastcoast, Thunder Awaken, BOOM Esports, Entity, Nigma Galaxy, Winter Break, Neon Esports, and Echpo4mak.

With most teams now disclosed, squads from China, the Philippines, MENA, Europe, and South America have joined the mix. Interestingly, Entity and Nigma Galaxy are probably the two most prominent teams from Europe and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) that have received direct invites to the event. Entity has played in Western Europe over the last few years but its current roster comprises two Russian players, a Kazakh, a Ukrainian, and a Belarusian.

The squad Echpo4mak should also be noted. It is perhaps the least famous team from the entire lineup so far, and this is not surprising, because it is almost brand-new. According to the event’s organizer, the squad is comprised of media personalities whose names will be revealed soon.

How Will this Affect Russian Dota 2?

Considering its inclusion of top teams from around the globe and the $1 million prize pool, Games of the Future certainly places itself as one of the premier Dota 2 competitions taking place in the first half of this year. It easily takes a spot next to events like ESL One Birmingham 2024, as well as BetBoom Dacha, which was announced last month and will have the first of its two tournaments soon.

Games of the Future 2024 is also arguably the largest Dota 2 LAN event to take place in Russia after the country invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Following that event, many organizations (teams and tournament hosts alike) either left the country, disbanded, or refused to participate in events held in the Russian Federation. You can read more about the event and how it fits within the larger esports scene in Russia.

However, it’s safe to say that the competitive Dota 2 sphere in the country is not dead and the event will likely have a somewhat rejuvenating effect on it.
