  • Falcons had a rough start in the event but quickly recovered, leading to this win
  • This is the team’s third major victory so far in 2024
  • BetBoom lost a finals match to Falcons for the second time this year

Falcons are becoming the favorite team in this year’s competitive Dota 2 scene as they won a third big Dota 2 tournament in 2024.

Falcons Defeat BetBoom

Yesterday evening saw the culmination of the ESL One Birmingham 2024 where Team Falcons went up against BetBoom Team. The tournament’s finals saw Falcons defeat BetBoom 3-0 to win the event and take home the $300,000 grand prize.

It was quite the journey for Falcons as they started ESL One Birmingham with a substitute. The team unexpectedly lost to Tundra Esports at the start of the playoffs. However, as Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak returned to the lineup, Falcons did not succumb to the pressure of the lower bracket where they defeated Liquid and then OG.

Meanwhile, BetBoom Team has to be content with yet another tournament finished in second place. This is already its second grand final loss to Falcons in 2024.

However, Falcons might become the next favorites in the wider Dota 2 community as they have been recording some quite significant wins lately. The ESL One Birmingham victory marks the third large tournament this year that Falcons have won. Last month the squad once again dominated BetBoom in the finals of the DreamLeague Season 22. Interestingly, they also defeated them 3-0. But Falcons also grabbed the number one spot at the BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 in February, taking home $400,000. With ESL One Birmingham added to this string of successes, Falcons are undoubtedly going to be the favorites in any upcoming Dota 2 tournaments, such as the upcoming PGL Wallachia Season 1, which starts on May 10.

Here Are Some Highlights from The Finals

In the first game, it seems that BetBoom’s strategy was to look for pickoffs, get tower kills, and build a lead. The team showed this by killing Falcons’ ATF four times in the first 11 minutes. Constant kills for BetBoom let it build a 6k lead in 22 minutes and get Aegis for Nightfall. However, Falcons’ incredible target prioritization in teamfights helped them break BetBoom’s stride in one crucial fight. BetBoom lost the momentum, allowing Falcons’ heroes to grow stronger as the match progressed into the late game, culminating in a win in 46 minutes.

Unfortunately for BetBoom, their position would not get better in Game 2. Although they once again took the early lead, they could not maintain it for long as Falcons turned things around with one major teamfight win. Still, it took a solid 51 minutes for Falcons to defeat their opponents.

In Game 3, Falcons chose comfort heroes for its cores, with ATF on Mars, Malr1ne on Timbersaw, and skiter on Dragon Knight. Despite BetBoom knowing they had to win this game or else they would lose the match, they had unfortunately lost steam. Falcons made no mistakes and won emphatically in 40 minutes to secure the match and take home the trophy and $300,000 grand prize.
