  • The two organizers will cooperate to host CS2 and Dota 2 tournaments in the 2024 to 2026 seasons
  • PGL will produce all Perfect World events in English and hold rights to their distribution outside of China
  • Conversely, Perfect World will produce and distribute PGL’s events in China

PGL and Perfect World are set to become some of the biggest CS2 and Dota 2 organizers after Valve removes franchised leagues like the ESL and BLAST Premier in 2025.

The Companies Announce Partnership

Organizing esports events is a major undertaking, especially if done on a global scale. PGL is one of the biggest esports organizers in the world and even they need some partners. For this reason, the company has announced it has signed a strategic partnership with Perfect World to host Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 events for the next three years.

As a result of the deal, the two entities will create a Tournament Cooperation, fostering a strategic collaboration in critical areas such as publicity and promotion, production, and technical support. With this, the two companies aim to enhance the overall quality of esports tournaments and set new standards in the industry.

The partnership isn’t all new, as the Romania and China-based organizers have already cooperated in a similar capacity on Counter-Strike and Dota 2 events since 2017. That being said, the new deal might be quite impactful for the broader CS2 scene as Valve plans to stop franchised leagues in 2025. This means that other large tournament organizers such as BLAST Premier and ESL might be taking a step back when the new rules arrive. This would create more opportunities for other tournament organizers to host large-scale Counter-Strike events featuring top teams.

PGL and Perfect World are now in the right spot and time to make the most out of the upcoming rules next year. The announcement also coincides with PGL announcing it will host eight Dota 2 events in the next three years, each one having a $1 million prize pool.

What Do PGL and Perfect World Promise?

Leveraging PGL’s worldwide reach and expertise in delivering world-class esports content, the company will produce all Perfect World events in English and have global rights, excluding China. This means that the global audience will have easier access to events from China, which have often been more difficult to watch.

Conversely, Perfect World will produce all PGL China events and all rights for the Chinese market. This includes the entire event production in Chinese. “Perfect World’s expertise in the Chinese market will amplify the region’s reach and impact of PGL events,” the official statement reads.

“As both organizations set their sights on the 2024-2026 seasons, the collaboration is poised to evolve dynamically with innovations that will shape the competitive gaming landscape,” the organizations further promise.
