Yet another traditional sports organization enters the world of esports with Coritiba signing a young Dota 2 roster.

Coritiba’s New Dota 2 Team

Esports has been growing at a rapid pace over the past couple of years. Many entertainment organizations want to engage in sponsoring esports events and teams, and even big political names like French president Emmanuel Macron want to see esports as part of the Olympic Games.

Things like this signify the rapid encroachment of esports into a more mainstream view, and many traditional sports organizations are starting to take notice and launch their own electronic teams. One such organization is the Brazilian football club Coritiba, which recently entered the competitive Dota 2 scene with its new esports team.

The club announced yesterday the signing of the Spirit roster, which features mini, Mr. Jeans, hyko, Jupiter, and serem. The five players will be representing Coritiba in the second division of the South American Dota Pro Circuit.

A Roster of Young but Promising Players

Coritiba signs relatively inexperienced, but promising players. Three of them – mini, Jupiter, and serem – already have a decent amount of experience playing together under the name of APU King of Kings in the first division last season. The three of them, along with two other players, Benny and dunha1, who are now not part of the team, started the season with a win in the second week.

However, the team was not able to ride the wave of success during the rest of the season, performing poorly and eventually being relegated. Shortly after the dissatisfactory performance of the team, Benny and dunha1 left and were replaced by Mr. Jeans and hyko.

Dota 2’s competitive scene can be somewhat chaotic, as there is a limited number of organizations in the scene, therefore the competition is fierce. The situation is further complicated by the fact that Valve can be slow or unpredictable with its decision-making. Interestingly, despite the company’s somewhat chaotic nature, Valve won a Sports Emmy thanks to its coverage of Dota 2’s The International 10 event.

Coritiba’s Dota 2 team will be competing in the second division of the South American DPC. This league is one of the more unpredictable ones, but thanks to Coritiba’s name now involved, it might become more popular in the region.

From our 5 star review…

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
