Famous Duo Play Together Again

Esports players’ careers can take them to many places and it’s not uncommon for their paths to interject from time to time. Such was the case for Artour “Arteezy” Babaev and Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan recently, as the two players briefly played together recently. Shopify Rebellion, the former Dota 2 pro’s team recently had SumaiL as their stand-in midlaner for the currently ongoing PGL Wallachia Season 1.

For many fans, this was the reunion, although brief, that they wanted to see between Ateezy and SumaiL. The last time the two players did so was more than four years ago when both were still part of Evil Geniuses. During an interview at the event, Arteezy talked about what it felt like to play with SumaiL after so long.

“It’s definitely a blast from the past. He hasn’t changed at all since the last time I remember playing with him. He’s literally the same vibes. His behavior is the same,” Arteezy explained. However, not absolutely everything seems the same as before, as the player said SumaiL’s reactions outside the game have improved.

“I think the one thing he’s improved is that he is a lot more vocal and a long time ago, I think he was a lot more like – I am the best. I am not going to need to talk all stiff but now he is a lot more expressive and I think that just comes with age,” Arteezy said.

What Is Arteezy and SumaiL’s Past?

Both players go back together a long time ago. Between them, they have almost two decades of professional Dota 2 play combined and were a part of Evil Geniuses between 2015 and 2019. Although they didn’t win many tournaments during that time, both still recorded some impressive results in various The International events. Additionally, they won the Mars Dota 2 League 2016 Autumn and The Manila Masters.

Arteezy recalled these years, remembering fondly the silly things the players used to do. “It reminds me of the clowny stuff like showing up late to scrims, all the stupid stuff that doesn’t really happen. It just happens with this guy. I mean he didn’t show up late to scrims. It’s just like an expression just in case he says something but yeah, it’s been fun.”

2019 was the year both players parted ways as SumaiL left Evil Geniuses while Arteezy remained with the team. Their brief reunion has ended with Shopify Rebelion’s elimination from the PGL Wallachia Season 1. However, the two players might once again play together sometime in the future.
