  • Vitality defeated G2 2-0 to secure a spot in the IEM 2024 Dallas’ playoffs
  • The squad dominated their opponents on both maps played
  • G2 will now have to play for survival in the tournament

Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen’s absence from G2 was felt hard as the team fell 2-0 against Vitality at the Intel Extreme Masters 2024.

Vitality Defeat G2

Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2024 is well underway and teams from all around the globe are duking it out for a chance to win glory and a slice of the quarter-million-dollar prize pool. Following yesterday’s opening of the event, French esports organization Vitality is one step closer to that goal as it has defeated G2 in the Group A upper-bracket semi-final.

As a consequence of this, Vitality secured a playoff spot at IEM Dallas and will be going up against the winners of the match between Liquid vs. 9z in the Group A final. Meanwhile, G2 will fight against the winner of MOUZ vs. Complexity in an attempt to stay alive in the tournament.

How Did the Match Go?

Vitality beat their opponents 2-0 in no small part thanks to G2 playing without one crucial component of their roster – in-game leader Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen. HooXi had to miss the IEM Dallas due to a variety of personal issues, but this has already messed up the team’s performance in the tournament. The player’s absence allowed Vitality to win the match in a spectacular fashion, beating their opponents 13-6 on Dust2 and 13-5 on Anubis respectively.

Speaking of the maps, substitute player Jake “Stewie2K” Yip had a particularly rough game on Dust2, where he put up only two kills. Interestingly, G2 might be partly to blame for this as the squad decided to completely switch up the veto in the series by banning Vertigo and picking Dust2. Surprisingly, this move initially seemed good as the team ran away to a 5-1 lead. Unfortunately for them, their simple playstyle was soon found out by their opponents.

As things seemed to be all in G2’s favor, Vitality responded by activating and stringing one round after the other, a trend that would continue after the sides switched. The French org eventually closed out a 13-6 victory after winning 12 out of the last 13 rounds. Shahar “flameZ” Shushan was crucial for this victory as he put up 23 kills and 117.6 ADR.

Anubis saw much of the same as Vitality dominated the first half, ending it with a 9-3. This pretty much sealed the fate of the game as when the sides switched, Vitality raced to the end to end the map 13-5 and won the match.
