  • VP secured a semi-finals berth at the ESL Pro League Season 19
  • They did so after an outstanding comeback from a 2-11 against their opponents

Virtus.pro is one step closer to the EPL S19 finals after defeating The Mongolz in a match that saw a remarkable comeback from the Russian team.

VP Defeat The Mongolz

ESL Pro League Season 19 is nearing its epic final this Sunday, and Virtus.pro have a real chance of attending it. This is because the Russian team has secured a spot for the event’s quarter-finals after defeating The Mongolz in a tough match.

With this match, the team finishes a successful EPL Playoffs stage that VP entered after defeating SAW last week. During their latest match against The Mongolz, VP had to bounce back from losing the first map to stay in the game. But The Mongolz did not let go as the Russian side once again were on the verge of defeat in the decider map, having to overcome a massive deficit to win the match and secure the coveted quarter-finals berth. “I’m happy that we didn’t give up when we were down 11-2 and we won it,” David “n0rb3r7” Danielyan said after the match. “Round by round, we were hyped, we were screaming info on TeamSpeak, and we managed to come back.”

Here’s How the Game Went

The match started on Overpass where VP looked uncharacteristically disorganized and ineffective on the offense. By the end of the first half, the squad had scored only three rounds. Dzhami “Jame” Ali stepped up to the plate and spearheaded Virtus.pro’s comeback on the CT side. Following this, both teams traded rounds and for a time it looked like VP might actually win the map. However, The Mongolz, thanks to a sensational fake sold by Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold on the A site, foiled their plans. With this, the Mongolian team won a tough 13-11 Overpass.

Mirage was next and it seemed like the previous map had taken all of The Mongolz’s energy. VP cruised to a 9-3 lead thanks to an inspired performance by Petr “fame” Bolyshev, who ended the half with a 2.22 rating and a 151 ADR. When her sides switched, The Mongolz strung together a few rounds, but it seemed it was not enough as VP closed out the map with a big 13-6 difference to equalize the total score.

With a quarter-final spot to play for, Virtus.pro drew first blood on Ancient, but things quickly fell apart. TheMongolz responded in an eco round and rode that momentum to a massive 11-2 lead that seemed insurmountable. However, it’s as if a miracle happened as VP started stacking rounds one after the other at the most critical point in the game. The squad continued doing so, stringing together a whopping 11 rounds to deny The Mongolz the victory. In the end, it was the Russian team that closed out Ancient 13-11 and won the match 2-1.

Following VP’s outrageous victory, the team is set to face Complexity later today in their strive for the ESL Pro League Season 19 grand prize.
