  • Falcons sign s1mple for a one-month loan from Natus Vincere
  • The player spent the last few months on the organization’s inactive roster
  • The latest CS2 updates might have prompted him to return to active play

After being inactive since October of last year, Ukrainian player Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev returns to the CS2 pro scene as part of Falcons’ roster.

Falcons Sign S1mple

When one is asked to name a popular Counter-Strike player, chances are that Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev might quickly come to mind. The 26-year-old Ukrainian player is often regarded as one of the best CS:GO and CS2 players out there. Yesterday, Saudi Arabian professional esports organization Team Falcons announced that he would be joining its roster for one month on loan from Natus Vincere.

With this signing, s1mple will step in for Falcons at the BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown. He will be replacing Mohammad “BOROS” Malhas, who has been moved to the bench after Falcons failed to qualify for the PGL Copenhagen Major.

There’s the possibility that this develops further into something more long-term, although neither the organization nor the player has said anything about this. S1mple’s brief thank you to NAVI for the “opportunity” doesn’t look like a goodbye as the Ukrainian org is still displayed in his X bio and banner.

Falcons director Grant Rousseau confirmed the loan is temporary, saying “Just want to be clear as statement says. This is for 1 month loan to cover us for Blast Showdown.” He then explained that this deal would give the team the flexibility to make the permanent roster decision needed going into ESL Proleague, IEM Dallas, and other events whilst still giving the Falcons a great shot to make it out of the BLAST showdown.

This Marks S1mple’s Return

Whatever the results of this deal are, many fans are delighted that they will at least be able to see the player once again on the big stage. S1mple took a break from pro CS a few months ago due to a myriad of reasons. Some of these included the player’s initial disapproval of CS2 as well as the need to “fix documents” and “take care of other people” in his life. Due to this, NaVi have had to rely on Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov as their AWPer, who helped the team qualify for the PGL Copenhagen Major this past week with a 3-1 run at the European RMR A event.

Perhaps it was due to the recent updates of CS2 that s1mple decided to return to the game. He seems to be happy with the latest changes and at IEM Katowice, s1mple said in an interview he hopes to make a full-time return after the Major, where he will stand in as a sixth man.

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
