After a 3-month-long dive into top-tier CS2 as part of Liquid’s roster, Aleks “Rainwaker” Petrov rejoins his old Bulgarian squad 500.

Rainwaker Returns to 500

In the world of esports it is quite common for players to jump around from one organization to another, especially when the offseason starts. However, it is somewhat rare for a pro to end up returning to the same team they have been at the beginning of the competitive season. But for Bulgarian Counter-Strike 2 player Aleks “Rainwaker” Petrov this is exactly what happened as 500 announced he is now back on the roster.

The 22-year-old pro rejoins the Bulgarian lineup after he had an unsuccessful stint with Liquid. He first joined the latter team back in June after weeks of rumors circulating Liquid wanted to sign Rainwaker as part of their rebuilding process. However, it doesn’t seem like the young player was a great choice as he spent only three months in active play and scored a modest 0,96 rating during that time. This resulted in Liquid benching Rainwaker in early October and he stayed on the sidelines since then.

Despite the player’s taste of tier-one competition being rather short, his return to 500 seems to be a blessing for the Bulgarian team. Ever since he initially left in the summer, the squad seems to have been struggling.

500 had a decent win rate in various B and C-tier events throughout the first half of 2023, but the past few months have not been kind to the organization at all. The team exited early from important tournaments such as the ESL Challenger at DreamHack Winter 2023: European Open Qualifier and the CCT East Europe Series #3. They have also not recorded a single victory in a match since the start of November.

However, now that Rainwaker is back, the team hopes it will be able to perform better in 2024. 500’s squad now looks like this:

  • Denislav “dennyslaw” Dimitrov
  • Georgi “SHiPZ” Grigorov
  • Ivan “Patrick” Ivanov
  • Hristiyan “REDSTAR” Pironkov
  • Aleks “Rainwaker” Petrov
  • Denis “Grashog” Hristov (coach)
