  • The organization announced plans to field a competitive CS:GO roster
  • If it follows, the club will become yet another Brazilian football club to enter big-time esports
  • There are already rumors about which players might join the team

Brazil might soon have a new CS:GO team, which will be fielded by non-other than the popular football club Corinthians.

Corinthians Want to Join Competitive CS:GO

With the immense growth esports has seen over the past couple of years more and more organizations are popping up. This includes many traditional sports organizations that are fielding various esports teams in an attempt to grab a slice of the lucrative growing entertainment industry.

One such body is the popular Brazilian football club Corinthians, which is currently looking to enter the world of competitive CS:GO. The organization, which fields one of the most popular teams on the Brazilian football scene, already has a presence in esports with its Free Fire team. However, on July 11 the organization announced on Twitter it is looking to expand its esports division by assembling a CS:GO roster.

The post did not specify if the organization has already signed any players, but they’re already rumors that circulate about who the organization might be looking at. The name of popular former MIBR player Adriano “WOOD7” Cerato seems to pop often when it comes to such discussions, as well as little-known Brazilians Leonardo “leomonster” Enrique and Lucas “lux” Meneghini.

Corinthians’ Esports Ambitions

If the Corinthians follow up on their announcement, this will make yet another large Brazilian club enter the big competitive esports scene. Just a month ago, one of the organization’s adversaries, Coritiba, entered the world of competitive Dota 2. It’s not difficult to imagine that in the future the two clubs might field teams in the other’s game, so we might see them compete in the virtual world, not just on the grassy field.

Corinthians’ latest announcement is actually the second time this year the organization has said it wants to field a CS:GO team. The former esports coordinator of Corinthians told HLTV’s Brazilian vertical Dust 2 Brazil in May that a company was interested in sponsoring the soccer club’s project in CS:GO. However, the club has since then parted ways with Nomad, its now-former esports administrator. Still, Corinthians want to field a CS:GO lineup.

If the club’s plans follow through, it will have a huge already-established fanbase that will support its CS:GO team.
