  • The organizers invited NRG to replace Rocket, who are banned from participating in the tournament
  • Ironically, NRG had been initially denied the opportunity after falling to Rocket
  • It still remains to be seen if NRG will make the most of the opportunity considering their rough 2024 so far

After Team Rocket’s Damian “EMIYA” Boulware was banned following cheating allegations, NRG have been invited to take up the team’s position at the RMR.

NRG Invited to Play

Only a couple of weeks separate us from the start of the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR and both teams and tournament organizers are making some last-minute preparations. For NRG, things will pick up pace as the organization has been invited to the event to replace Rocket.

NRG missed out on the RMR after they were eliminated in the final 2-2 Swiss round of the closed qualifier by, ironically, Rocket. There were other teams that could potentially come in to fill the gap left by Rocket, but they have all made various roster changes and had lower Bucholz scores.

There were uncertainties about whether Damian “daps” Steele’s side would simply be given the invite or if PGL and Valve would replace Rocket at all. However, an invite to NRG was extended, and the tournament organizers are beginning to help with the logistics of the team’s travel to Monterrey, Mexico, where the Americas RMR will be held.

Why Was NRG Chosen to Replace Rocket?

NRG’s invite or the event comes in the wake of cheating scandals that have been swirling around Rocket during the past few days. The team was recently disqualified from ESL Challenger League Season 47 and the ESL Challenger Melbourne Closed Qualifier with immediate effect. This was due to Damian “EMIYA” Boulware’s ban from FACEIT due to cheating.

Additionally, Rocket member Ahmed “ayy” Mahmoud also stated that, in light of EMIYA’s ban, he would not travel to the RMR even if the team was allowed to play because he felt they didn’t deserve their spot. Another Rocket member, Matthew “nero” Seymour, said on Tuesday that the Counter-Strike team had sent an email to PGL requesting their invitation to the Major qualifier be rescinded.

Of course, the fact that NRG has been granted a spot in the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR doesn’t mean they will be able to prosper at the event thanks to this opportunity. The team has had somewhat mixed results so far this year as recent losses to Party Astronauts and timbermen locked NRG out of trips to Australia and Europe.

The PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: American RMR will be held between March 1 and 4 in Monterrey, Mexico, with the top five teams qualifying for the PGL Copenhagen Major later the same month.
