NRG Win Ace North American Masters

Ace North American Masters Fall 2024 concluded yesterday with NRG taking the top spot of the tournament. As a result, the esports organization has secured a spot at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown which will be held in late August.

Despite winning a berth for the prestigious event, judging by NRG’s performance early in the North American Masters Fall 2024, one would doubt the org could do it. The team got off on the wrong foot in the tournament, losing to Wildcard 13-8. However, NRG had a moment to breathe as they later defeated FLUFFY AIMERS with a massive space to spare, which kept them alive in the tournament. This brought them on a revenge trajectory toward Wildcard, whom they defeated in a close 13-10 match to secure a spot in the playoffs.

At them, NRG first had to fight Party Astronauts on June 8. Interestingly, both teams met at ESL Challenger League Season 47: North America and Thunderpick World Championship 2024: North American Series #2 the two days before, and both matches ended with NRG losing. However, the team managed to take revenge in the Ace North American Masters Fall 2024 match on Saturday, setting themselves to face M80 at the finals.

It seems like both teams picked their opponent’s worst maps as they each had absolute domination on their own picks. NRG picked Inferno first and beat M80 with a solid 13-5 showing. M90 later returned the favor by defeating their opponents 13-3 on Ancient to equalize the overall score to 1-1. However, NRG would have the last laugh as they dominated M80 13-5 on Mirage to win the match and secure the coveted BLAST Premier Fall Showdown spot.

How Has the Org Been Doing Recently?

Winning the Ace North American Masters Fall 2024 is a breath of fresh air for the team as it has had multiple failed qualifications for European events since NRG re-entered Counter-Strike in November 2023. The Showdown qualification is a much-needed boost for NRG, who are lingering in 67th place in the world rankings.

The recent successes are likely due to NRG’s roster changes following the Americas RMR. The organization signed Colby “Walco” Walsh and Timothy “autimatic” Ta with the former taking over as IGL from Damian “daps” Steele, who transitioned to a coaching role.

NRG are the third team to qualify for the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown, joining AMKAL and Zero Tenacity. Thirteen more organizations will fight for the remaining spots in upcoming tournaments.
