  • G2 took the first map, Anubis, thanks to a clutch and an overtime
  • NaVi retook the initiative after a hard-fought second map
  • The last map was quite a breeze for NaVi who won it with a huge advantage

NaVi become one of the four semifinalists of the last BLAST CS2 event of the year and are now poised to go up against Vitality tomorrow.

G2 Took the Early Lead

BLAST Premier World Final is hurtling towards its end this weekend, but German organization G2 will not be one of the lucky ones to see it. This is because the team was eliminated from the event after a closely fought 2-1 match against Natus Vincere, who secured a semis spot.

The series started on Anubis, with NaVi taking the early lead by winning five rounds in a row. However, this seemed to make them a bit too uncautious, as the Aleksib-led side underestimated their opponents, allowing G2’s Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov to make a spectacular ace and bring the initiative back to his team.

This allowed G2 to make up for the gap in the score which led to the first half ending on a 6-6. G2 kept that momentum when the sides switched and although NaVi responded in kind, the map went into overtime. However, it was G2 who eventually took Anubis to set the score 1-0.

NaVi Responded in Kind

Inferno was the next map, of which G2 took the early lead, much like their opponents did on Anubis. However, it seems they further followed in NaVi’s steps as G2 failed an advantageous 3vs1 situation and a planted bomb. Aleksib got behind enemy lines and killed the sole site defender, Nemanja “nexa” Isaković, and defused the bomb while the other two players rushed back to the site in vain.

Following that clutch, it all went downhill for G2 who once again fought for an overtime. Unfortunately for them, NaVi’s aleriy “b1t” Vakhovskiy and Justinas “jL” Lekavicius closed out a 2vs2 in the final round of regulation, allowing their team to equalize the match to a 1vs1.

With both teams entering the final map, Nuke, it was all to play for. However, it seems G2 had run out of steam as NaVi’s Mihai “iM” Ivan ran circles around the enemy team in Yard on the attack and was crucial in his squad’s 7-5 lead on the T side. After the sides switched, it was very easy for the Aleksib-led side to stack up the rest of the rounds needed to record a 13-6 victory and eliminate their opponents from the tournament with a 2-1 match. Now, G2 joins the likes of Cloud9 who were also eliminated today in the event’s quarterfinals.

“I’m just so happy that we finally get to play on the stage,” Aleksib said on the broadcast after the match. He will now have to lead his team against Vitality at the BLAST World Final semis. “Vitality is a really tough team for us, we’ve had a tough time against them, but it’s a good thing we’ve played against them to know their style,” the captain said about his opponents. Judging by his words, NaVi’s next encounter promises to be quite interesting.
