  • Liquid is continuing with their total overhaul of their Counter-Strike 2 team
  • They have brought aboard veteran Danish player cadiaN as the team’s new IGL
  • He will also be the revamped roster’s dedicated AWPer

Ever since Liquid lost their former captain Nick “nitr0” Cannella this summer, they have been looking for a good replacement and they have found him in the face of former Heroic player Casper “cadiaN” Møller.

CadiaN Joins Liquid

For the past few weeks, Liquid have been going through a huge overhaul in the Counter-Strike 2 team which saw almost all members leave the roster. After four of the organization’s players left throughout late November, only in-game leader Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis was left and he was in desperate need of new teammates.

These started arriving in the form of Wilton “zews” Prado and Felipe “skullz” Medeiros, whom Liquid announced to have signed earlier this week. However, one cannot have a CS2 team with just three players, so Liquid still has some more road ahead. To help with this, the organization has bought aboard Danish legend Casper “cadiaN” Møller, who will become the squad’s new AWPer and will also take over the leadership duties from YEKINDAR.

How This Will Affect the Team

With this signing, Liquid solves two issues, the most important being their lack of a proper in-game leader. YEKINDAR filling the position until now was somewhat of a stop-gap measure necessitated after the organization lost Nick “nitr0” Cannella in the summer and have failed to find a more permanent solution ever since.

Additionally, cadiaN will fill in the gap left by Josh “oSee” Ohm, the team’s previous dedicated AWPer. The 24-year-old American player was benched earlier after averaging a not-very-impressive 1.06 rating and subsequently found himself a new home in NRG.

However, one might think that cadiaN’s signing isn’t that big of an improvement in terms of rating. Over his four years with Heroic, during which he led the team to title victories at BLAST Fall Final 2022, BLAST Spring Final 2023, and other events, the player averaged a not-so-spectacular 1.09 rating. That being said, his captainship undoubtedly helped his former team in various situations at that quality of his is likely the main reason that the organization has acquired him.

Interestingly, cadiaN might not have been Liquid’s first choice when it comes to signing a new AWPer. Rumors suggested Liquid wanted to sign Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken to the team when they first announced they were starting a rebuild. That being said, the same rumors also said the organization might want to bring in cadiaN as well, although he had a much lower priority. In the end, Liquid chose, or was able to get, only the latter of the two players.

Of course, considering cadiaN’s resume, this should not be a mistake at all. The organization now has to find just one more player to complete its roster before the CS2 tournaments start ramping up again.
