  • G2’s run in the tournament started with a dominating 2-0 victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov was by far G2’s most valuable player
  • G2 now continue to the upper finals, while NiP will fight for survival in the tournament

With a 13-7 on Vertigo and a whopping 13-2 on Anubis, G2 dominated Ninjas in Pyjamas at the opener of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups.

G2 Defeat NiP

BLAST Premier Spring Groups started earlier today and they have already produced some interesting matches, one of which is that between G2 and Ninjas in Pyjamas. The game saw G2 obliterate their opponents to start their campaign in the event with a solid victory.

Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, one of the best players of 2023, was crucial for G2’s victory as the young Russian scored a spectacular 1.88 rating during the match. His job was made easier by the fact that Ninjas in Pyjamas had a somewhat weak performance that lacked firepower, apart from some brief flashes of hope from Fredrik “REZ” Sterner.

All of this resulted in G2 winning the match 2-0 after taking Vertigo with a solid lead and then finishing things off on Anubis, which the team won with an even bigger difference. This results in G2 heading to the upper finals, where they will face the victor from the encounter of Complexity vs. Natus Vincere. Meanwhile, NiP will have to fight against the loser of that matchup in the lower finals in an attempt to stay alive in the tournament.

Here’s How the Match Went

Despite eventually losing the match, NiP started it off strongly by winning the first three rounds on their pick of Vertigo, largely thanks to REZ’s performance. However, once G2 got their economy going, the team not only took the lead but also one six rounds in a row doing so. Obviously, this shook NiP quite a lot, so the team scrambled to secure a close halftime scoreline, which read 5-7 in favor of their opponents.

When the sides switched, both teams traded a round each with NiP getting the pistol rounds, while G2 did so with the second one. This was to lay the foundations for the end of Vertigo, as the majority Balkan side had an easy run throughout the rest of the map. G2’s m0NESY once again showed his skills as the young player ran rampant through NiP’s lines. In almost no time at all, this led to G2 taking the map 13-7 to get the lead in the match.

It seems this had drained all of NiP’s strength, as the team barely showed resistance when the map switched to Anubis. G2 not only took the early lead but also dictated the flow of the match, not allowing their opponents to score more than two rounds. Anubis ended soon after it had started with G2 absolutely dominating NiP with a whopping 13-2 difference to take the match and go to the event’s upper finals.
