Following a mediocre couple of months, Eternal Fire gained a huge boost in confidence by winning the CCT Global Finals.

Eternal Fire Emerge Victorious

CCT Global Finals has ended and Turkish esports organization Eternal Fire has run away with the $250,000 grand prize after defeating Liquid in a drawn-out match. The best-of-five didn’t go to all the maps as EF beat Liquid 3-1, but that’s not to say it was an easy task. On the contrary, two of the four maps played stretched out to overtime.

However, judging by the start of the match, one might not think this would happen as Liquid did not show great performance on Inferno. Their Turkish opponents did not allow Liquid to go into the positives and quickly wrapped up the map 13-5.

However, once the match switched to Anubis, things became a lot more balanced. While Eternal Fire once again defeated their enemies, their victory was not as convincing as a 13-10 is a bit too close for comfort, according to some people.

Noting this, the Turkish squad poured all their strengths at the beginning of Dust2. If they had one on the map, they would have also secured the match and the first place of the tournament. For a time, EF held a firm initiative. However, after garnering a 9-3 lead they started to let things slip. Liquid’s Twistzz and NAF were key for that turn of events. Eventually, the European squad was able to overtake their opponents and clawed out a victory in the first overtime of the match.

As the squads clashed on Nuke, Liquid once again started slow, allowing Eternal Fire to pick up six T rounds. However, the Turkish squad lost steam in the mid-game, a fact which Liquid took advantage of. The map again stretched to overtime, but EF stabilized with some aggressive and fast-paced rounds blowing Liquid away to take the match 3-1 and win CCT Global.

What Does This Match Mean for Both Teams?

For Eternal Fire, this victory is also a sign the squad is solidifying its position in the competitive Counter-Strike scene. Since earning a top-eight finish at PGL Major Copenhagen, the Turkish team has stuttered and stumbled. They lost to Sashi to miss out on an EWC berth before crashing out of the group stage of ESL Pro League.

Fortunately, the CCT Global Finals victory will reinject some confidence into the team. EF dropped only two maps on their way to the title. Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş’ was key to the squad’s success as he finished as the event’s highest-rated player with a 1.33 rating over 13 maps.

Despite losing to EF in the end, Liquid’s run through the tournament was also very good. Their hard-fought win over Astralis was a particular highlight and should serve as proof they are headed in the right direction. Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken is still arguably the squad’s best player, sporting a 1.25 rating over 14 maps.
