  • 24 squads will attend IEM Cologne 2024 which starts in less than two months
  • Some secured their spots through winning majors while others through their rankings
  • Brazil will field the most teams from a single country

Eight teams have received spots at the IEM Cologne 2024’s main stage while 16 will fight to get into it in the play-ins.

IEM Cologne 2024’s Teams Are Set

We are less than two months away from the start of the IEM Cologne 2024 and the organizer ESL is busy preparing for the big Counter-Strike 2 event. Recently, the organization has revealed the teams that will participate in the tournament and will fight for a slice of the $1 million prize pool.

Like its two previous iterations, the IEM Cologne 2024 will be separated into two stages. The event will have a Play-In to determine the eight teams that will advance to the later group stage.

Out of the 24 teams invited to the event, four have received direct placements to the second phase due to their performance at Big Events throughout the year. For example, MOUZ secured their spot after winning ESL Pro League S19. Meanwhile, FaZe and Spirit were given an invite due to their respective wins in Chengdu and Katowice. Last, but not least, G2 also received an invite after recently winning IEM Dallas.

Another four teams are joining these ones in the group stage – Vitality, Natus Vincere, Astralis, and Virtus.pro. These skip the Play-In stage due to their ESL Ranking.

Speaking of said stage, the rest of the 16 teams participating in IEM Cologne 2024 will have to start from it. The Play-In stage will determine which eight of them will proceed forward to the main event to play with the already invited organizations.

How Do the Play-Ins Look Like?

In some regards, this stage could be considered more interesting. For example, Complexity is set to be the sole North American roster competing at the German event. Meanwhile, South America has a much richer pool of participants in the face of Imperial, FURIA, MIBR, and paiN, all of whom hail from Brazil.

It should also be noted that the final member of the Play-In stage has yet to be determined. That will be the winner of the German open qualifier set to start on June 11.

We should also mention the two breakout teams that will be attending the event –  The MongolZ and 9z, Finally, the stage is completed by several regular tier-one event attendees such as HEROIC, Liquid, and home-town favorites BIG. Here’s the full list of attendees at the IEM Cologne 2024:
