Evil Geniuses (EG)’s former coach Damian “daps” Steele was with the North American organization for about half a year and he recently shared several details that explain EG’s downfall in CS:GO.

Daps Leaves Evil Geniuses

With the anticipation for the new CS:GO season in 2022, Evil Geniuses have started rebuilding their roster. This includes the signing of a new coach Damien “maLeK” Marcel, who replaces Damian “daps” Steele. Having been with the organization for more than half a year, the former has some thoughts to share that shed light on EG’s poor performance this season.

According to daps, he had a difficult time in EG because the players lacked sufficient motivation to get out of the hole that they had dug themselves into. He also complained that the team’s management did not provide the support requested by daps to make necessary changes for the team’s overall improvement.

More Details on EG’s Failure

When daps joined EG, he was under the impression that some small changes were needed. Before making them, however, the former coach wanted to see the team perform firsthand. However, shortly after joining EG, player Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz took a break to concentrate on his mental health. The timing was unfortunate with daps stepping in for him, as the player EG had targeted was not an IGL (In-Game Leader).

It was at the IEM Fall 2021: North America that Stanislaw returned to Evil Geniuses, but by that point, daps had realized that more changes were necessary. EG wanted to qualify for the PGL Major Stockholm 2021, so they did not want to lose RMR points even if they performed badly till the end of the year.

At that point, daps wanted to use a substitute player, but his idea was turned down “as the understanding from EG was just to ride it out till the offseason to make changes.” This is what the former EG coach wrote in a Pastebin, which he shared on Twitter.

Perhaps the final nail in the coffin for Evil Geniuses’ performance this season was the removal of three players, those being MICHU, oBo, and stanislaw. Dabs then suggested EG make a new roster around Keith “NAF” Markovic, but that plan fell through due to various reasons. Because of this, daps informed EG he wants to quit coaching.

With EG now signing maLeK as his replacement, daps has said he wants to compete professionally once again. He would consider coaching if he was granted authority to make roster changes himself. He will be a free agent when his contract with EG ends on January 14.
