  • C9 now proceeds to the Upper Bracket Final where they’ll meet
  • C9 kept their flawless run this year which saw them not drop even a single map so far
  • Anubis looked more like a C9 highlight reel than an actual competition

With Heroic winning just six rounds of the two maps played, Cloud9 absolutely dominated them, especially on Annubis which ended with a 13-1 difference.

Cloud9 Defeat Heroic

BLAST Premier’s Spring Groups are going full steam ahead and some organizations are plowing through the event. Cloud9 is one of them as the team found themselves in Group D’s upper bracket final after obliterating Heroic 2-0 in a match that saw the latter team take just six rounds of both maps played. This keeps C9’s lossless run so far this year. The Russian organization had a flawless 3-0 run through the RMR closed qualifiers which saw them drop not a single map.

Abay “HObbit” Khassenov said after the most recent match that C9’s success is due to the huge amounts of practice the team has done. “We need to stay focused and keep improving. When the roster was created, we were thinking, ‘Oh my God, so much firepower!’ But it doesn’t work like this. Everyone needs to improve. We need to create chemistry between the players,” he explained.

How Did the Match Go?

Despite eventually losing the game in such a dramatic manner, Heroic started off strongly with a 4-1 on their pick of Mirage. Unfortunately for them, they quickly lost that momentum and were never able to bring it back again. The rest of the half saw C9 dominate the match with Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov posting a more than impressive 1.49 rating with 13 frags.

When the sides switched, things did not improve for Heroic as they lost the first pistol round. The rest of the map turned into a highlight fest with Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy getting four kills in a 2v4 situation. Heroic responded with a clutch from René “TeSeS” Madsen, but hast was en vain as later C9’s Boombl4 wrapped up Mirage with yet another clutch in a 1v3 situation, denying Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi the ace in the process.

When the map switched to Anubis, it seemed like C9 were playing alone as Heroic put up almost no resistance. The Russian team dominated every engagement, performed more clutches, and took crucial points. By the time the sides switched, C9 had a massive lead which was made even bigger thanks to Denis “electroNic” Sharipov performing a spectacular ace in the pistol round to put his team on match point. Although Heroic responded with a scout and a couple of Deagles in the next round, they could not stop C9’s momentum. The Russian squad quickly wrapped things up, taking the map with an overwhelming 13-1.

Cloud9 will now have to go up against, who will be a whole nother story. Hobbit noted in the post-match interview that it’s always hard to play against the team, but also interesting, so he promised it will be a special match.
