  • The Call of Duty League announced some major updates on Thursday
  • This includes more news about the delayed start of Vanguard’s Season 2
  • The game will finally have a ranked mode

After many months of waiting, Call of Duty: Vanguard players will have a ranked mode. The mode should be a direct copy of WWII’s popular system.

New Content Is Finally Coming to Vanguard

CoD: Vanguard has been out for over two and a half months, and ever since players have been asking for changes. A couple of weeks ago, the game’s developers Sledgehammer teased some changes that will be coming soon, and on Thursday the Call of Duty League released a new community update. It was written by general manager Daniel Tsay who addressed the delay of Vanguard’s second season. According to the update, the game still has too many problems to launch an entirely new season.

Sledgehammer was blasted by many players, professional and casuals alike, for their seeming lack of communication with the fanbase. Fortunately for fans, it seems that their patience will finally be rewarded, as Vanguard’s ranked component looks to be launching alongside the delayed Season 2 update.

Ranked Mode and the Start of Season 2

Although the Call of Duty League update did not specify details about the ranked system, it did confirm that it will come with the start of Season 2, which is slated for February 14. “Ranked Play is planned to roll out alongside new Call of Duty: Vanguard game content in February,” says the update.

Regarding the actual format of the ranked mode, there is still no official information on the matter. However, previous leaks hint that the Vanguard system will copy directly from the well-licked WWII system. It is safe to expect everything from skill divisions and visible skill ratings to unique competitive rewards. The update should also feature one or two new maps.

Additionally, due to the delay of Season 2, the Call of Duty League teams will, unfortunately, not be available at the start of the season. Those are expected to arrive after the 2022 season. It is still unknown if these skins will come in packs as they have in previous years. Players should expect to receive a weapon blueprint, Operator skins, and other cosmetics relating to the team they buy the pack for, but a price or specific date has not yet been announced.

Vanguard has had a bumpy few months, but the approaching start of the Call of Duty League might be a chance for the game to redeem itself. Despite this, fans are still expressing concerns, to which the CDL responded recently.
