  • The CDL’s league year ended just a few days ago, prompting many changes in organizations
  • Players are registering as free agents by the drove
  • The CDL’s next competitive season starts on August 22

Twitter lit up with the announcement that many Call of Duty League players are now leaving the organization to look for new opportunities during the offseason.

The 2022 CDL Season is Over

Summer is a time for breaks and that also often applies to the esports sphere. As many different leagues are now transitioning between competitive seasons, organizations and teams have a few weeks to make desired changes. Additionally, it’s a time for players to renew contracts, sign new ones, or leave their current team or league in search of other opportunities.

The Call of Duty League is no exception to these rules and several prominent players have already announced they are now officially free agents. These include pros like Crimsix, Attach, Bance, and more, who revealed they are now free heading into the 2023 CDL season.

Crimsix played in the New York Subliners during this 2022 season where he helped the team at the Major Four just to qualify for the end-of-season playoffs. He is not the only NYS player who has recently confirmed he will be a free agent now. His now-former teammate PaulEhx also announced his decision to search for new opportunities going into the Modern Warfare II season. This coincides with the recent dates revealed for the MWII Beta.

Although NYS is losing two of its players, Minnesota RØKKR has it far worse, as four members from the team will become unrestricted free agents “when their contracts expire” on August 22. This was announced on Twitter by COO of the RØKKR and Version1 Brett Diamond, who also explained that the organization is looking at the possibility of resigning the players. The four in question are Attach, Standy, Priestahh, and Havok.

The shift in players also extends to substitutes. For example, Prolute, who filled in for OpTic Texas at multiple points during the Vanguard season, also announced his free agent status. The 21-year-old was tabbed to step into OpTic’s starting lineup after iLLeY was sidelined due to a thumb injury earlier this year. Prolute performed admirably after being thrust into the roster in less-than-ideal circumstances.

These players, as well as organizations looking for new blood in their teams, have about a week to find new opportunities. The CDL’s 2023 league year officially begins on August 22 and it seems the upcoming Modern Warfare II will play a central role in it.
