  • AC6: Fires of Rubicon has become hugely successful just days after its launch
  • Its challenging gameplay and vast customization options have attracted many players
  • Many praised the title, despite its “player filtering” few first bosses

Despite being a departure from the dark fantasy setting of many other FromSoft games, Armored Core 6 has already become the company’s second-biggest title with over 150,000 concurrent players.

AC6 Climbs the Steam Charts

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon has been one of the most anticipated games of this year and since it was released on August 25 it has already had a huge impact on the gaming community as a whole. Despite the mecha-based vehicular combat game being a departure in setting and aesthetics from the usual dark fantasy we’ve come to expect from developers FromSoftware, it has been a roaring success following the first weekend since its launch on PC. Its fast-paced combat and difficult enemies seem to have captured a large audience, a large part of which has declared AC6 one of the hardest FromSoftware titles to date.

Due to all of this, the game has very quickly become the company’s second-biggest PC launch, standing just behind Elden Ring. During its opening weekend alone, Armored Core 6 has reached 156,022 concurrent players, according to Steam Charts. This makes it the fifth-biggest launch of the year, with four other titles being above it for 2023: Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate 3, Sons of the Forest, and Resident Evil 4’s 2023 remake.

During just its first weekend, AC6 beat out other popular FromSoft titles, such as Sekiro and Dark Souls 3, which had 125 315 and 129 975 concurrent players on PC, respectively. However, considering the studio’s most popular title Elden Ring captured a massive 953 426 players at its all-time peak, AC6 still has a long way to go to become From Soft’s most-played game.

Still, the game managed to make a huge impact at launch, and not only on Dark Souls fans. Devout followers of the Armored Core franchise have been waiting over a decade for this release and their enthusiasm has undoubtedly added fuel to the game’s initial success.

It should also be noted that the game’s difficulty discourages a lot of players, as many have complained about the first few bosses being excruciating to play against. It seems that the third one, Balteus, has been branded as the true “filter” of Armored Core 6. Furthermore, some players have voiced concerns that the game strays too close to the “Soulsborne” genre, even coining the term “Armored Souls” as a form of criticism.

Despite that, it seems that the game’s robust customization features, dynamic and challenging gameplay, and edgy futuristic aesthetic have captured many players and it’s safe to consider that Armored Core 6 is already a huge success.
