  • The team broke DarkZero and TSM’s dominance in pro Apex Legends
  • A few key moments in the last game came in handy to help the team emerge victorious
  • Interestingly, the non-meta Wattson was key to REJECT’s success

REJECT WINNITY became the first APAC North team ever to win an Apex Legends Global Series LAN.

REJECT Emerge Victorious

Apex Legends Global Series: 2024 Split 1 Playoffs was packed with favorites from dominant regions like North America and APAC South. However, it was the South Korean trio of Obly, KaronPe, and SangJoon who became dominant in the end by winning the event and taking home the $300,000 grand prize.

What makes their achievement even more impressive is the fact that the team went up against multiple LAN champs DarkZero, one of the favorites of the tournament. Up until the last match it looked like they would snatch away a LAN trophy again. However, a tough rotation for DarkZero led to a series of third parties that resulted in REJECT occupying all the space in the very last zone. This was to be the key to the team’s victory as they held their position and took out fan favorites Disguised and Cloud9 in the process to seal the win.

Obly Talks About the Event

In a post-match interview, REJECT’s Obly talked a bit but how the team faired. According to him, he and his teammates had a slow start, approaching the ring slowly. However, when the team saw DarkZero’s name pop up in the kill feed, REJECT realized their chances of winning suddenly jumped drastically.

Obly also explained the team’s confidence in Wattson as a character, despite many other pro players not favoring her in the meta. However, this helped REJECT defend against more aggressive teams running Bloodhound, for example. Obly also said that Apex’s general nerf of SMGs in recent seasons helped Wattson.

“I must admit, I think controller players have the edge,” Obly told said. “But Apex Legends, it’s a team game. An individual player could have higher firepower, but if the synergies are bad, it can go wrong [for that team]. So we feel that even as mouse and keyboard players if the team synergy is strong, we have a decent chance to win as well.” REJECT is the first all-mouse-and-keyboard team to win an ALGS LAN since the TSM lineup of ImperialHal, Reps, and Albralelie won the Preseason Invitational in 2019.

With the trophy and grand prize of the event secured, REJECT WINNITY now prepare for the upcoming ALGS: 2024 Split 2 Pro League – APAC North, which starts on June 1.
