Monumental Sports & Entertainment reveals plans to create an esports-focused 14,000 square foot venue in Washington D.C.

MSE Will Open a New Large Facility

With the rise in esports popularity, there comes the need for new facilities to host events and tournaments. To answer this need, sports holding company Monumental Sports & Entertainment will be creating a new large venue in Washington D.C. The 14,000 square foot facility will take over two former restaurant spaces, amounting to almost the entire first floor of the Gallery Place mixed-use mall.

The new venue will have three main components – a 150-person esports venue, food and beverage courts, and a private team practice facility. The last one will also have “streaming pods” dedicated for Wizards District Gaming, Caps Gaming, Team Liquid, and other organizations.

The facility is expected to host its first visitors this fall. It is located near the Capital One Arena, the home arena for the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards.

The Organization Is Investing in the Future

Co-CEO and Owner of Team Liquid Steve Arhancet said that MSE and Team Liquid have been great partners over the years and this new venture will elevate fans’ experience and help the organization interact more with them. “Having lived in the DMV for a number of years, it’s an honor for me to reconnect with the local community,” he added, “and I am looking forward to working alongside and supporting our local organizations, universities, and athletes to bring together fans across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. by providing them with a genuine and unique esports experience.”

As well as working with Team Liquid and esports in general, MSE is also known for its large influence in traditional sports. The company is the owner of several sports and esports teams, which include the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals, and Caps Gaming. MSE is also a large investor in aXiomatic, the group that owns Team Liquid.

“The team at Monumental is always on the cutting-edge, adopting the latest technology and setting trends for live event experiences,” said Marla Ostroff, Ticketmaster Managing Director – North America. “District E Powered by Ticketmaster is an innovative and exciting concept that explores a whole new realm of live entertainment experiences. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Monumental in bringing District E to life.”

With its 150-person competition hall, the venue is expected to host more than 200 events annually. MSE also wants it to become a regional hub for grassroots esports. More information can be found in Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s official announcement.
