Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is reaching Brazil, where it will host a regional iteration of its Professional League. 

Brazil Becomes the First Non-Asian Country to be Included in the MLBB Professional League

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a competitive mobile MOBA game that is quickly gaining popularity in Asia. The game’s developers Moonton are looking to expand that popularity by reaching other regions as well. With this being the goal, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s Professional League will be expanding to Brazil. 

The game’s professional league is currently held exclusively in Southeast Asian countries. Brazil will be the first country outside of Asia to be included. However, not much is known currently as Moonton is yet to reveal more information. As of now, MLBB fans have only an announcement that teases more news is coming soon. 

Despite still being fairly unheard of in the West, MLBB is surprisingly popular in its native regions. The game’s competitive esports tournaments boast millions of viewers across the SEA countries. Here are some examples, according to data from Esports Charts:

  • MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2021 – 2 284 012 peak viewers
  • MPL PH Season 7 – 1 412 187 peak viewers
  • MPL MY Season 7 – 111 190 peak viewers

MLBB was even among the four games chosen to be played as medal sports at the SEA Games later this year. 

The Professional League currently covers Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, and Singapore, as well as the newly-included Brazil. 

Expanding Outside Southeast Asia

Mobile Legends: Bang Bangs’ developers are trying to popularize the game outside of Asia. Various smaller tournaments have been held in the Americas, Europe, and CIS but with nowhere near the same success as in Southeast Asia. The Brazil National Championship in 2020 didn’t cap 8000 peak watchers and had an average of just under 2000. 

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang will now have even more difficulties in establishing an audience in other regions because of its fearsome competitor: League of Legends: Wild Rift. Wild Rift has been having unparalleled success across all regions. It was also chosen as one of the games for SEA Games and has earned a World Championship in its very year of release. Riot Games’ popularity contributed to Wild Rift’s boom. 

We are yet to see how the Professional League in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang will fare in Brazil. It is good to see a variety of games on the market as a competitive environment urges developers and event organizers to give it they’re all.
