The latest match between EVOS Legends and RRQ Hoshi set a new peak viewership record in the history of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Indonesia.

Esports Charts: 2.8M Fans Saw the Game

While Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is far from being one of the top mobile esports titles in the West, the game continues to enjoy great popularity in Asia. According to the latest statistics from Esports Charts, the latest Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) in Indonesia has set a new peak viewership record.

 The record happened during the last week of the regular season when two of the local powerhouses, EVOS Legends and RRQ Hoshi, clashed in a heated match. As the two are some of the most popular teams in Indonesia, their fans flooded the streams, helping the league reach a peak audience of 2,845,364 concurrent viewers.

Indonesia’s viewership record prior to the latest game was scored during the eighth season of the local league and stood at 2.3 million. It was also the third-highest peak viewer count in the game’s competitive history and was surpassed only by the M2 and the M3 World Championships.

RRQ Won but EVOS Will Have a Chance to Avenge Its Loss

RRQ eventually won the match and became the champion of the event. This was by no means an easy game as EVOS Legends came close to defeating RRQ a few times. In the end, the match concluded with a 2-1 result in the latter team’s favor.

It is worth noting that the second most popular match in the ninth season of MPL Indonesia was another faceoff between EVOS Legends and RRQ Hoshi. It managed to attract 1.7 million viewers at its peak. The two teams might stand against one another once again.  EVOS Legends will soon play against Alter Ego. If the former wins, it will have the chance to challenge RRQ Hoshi once again.

The MPL Indonesia Season 9 playoffs are scheduled to kick off on April 21. The competition will last four days and will provide two teams with a shot at the MLBB SEA Championship in 2022 – the first LAN event in the region since the beginning of the pandemic.
