- Faker became the first and only player to win four LoL World Championships
- To commemorate the unique achievement, many fans requested Riot add a special skin in-game
- Azir has been raised as the favorite by many players to receive the cosmetic
After lifting a fourth Summoner’s Cup above his head alongside T1, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok became the first and only LoL pro to make such an achievement, and fans want a special skin to commemorate the historic event.
Faker Wins LoL Championship 2023
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok is often regarded as one of the best players that the world of League of Legends has ever seen. This reputation only became even stronger when he claimed yet another Summoner’s Cup on November 19 after his team T1 defeated Weibo Gaming 3-0 in the LoL World Championship 2023 finals.
With this victory, the team secured a fourth world title and Faker played a huge part in that success. Not only that, but the 27-year-old also became the first and only League of Legends pro to win four World Championships. Because of this unique achievement, many fans suggested this should be commemorated in-game with a special legendary skin.
The idea was discussed in a highly-voted Reddit post from November 21, which saw many players agree that Riot Games should celebrate Faker’s achievement with the cosmetic item. Considering Faker won the 2013, 2015, and 2016 LoL World Champions, the original poster suggested there could be a total of four different skins commemorating each victory, including the 2024 one, and each would be priced higher the closer to the present day they are.
Fans Agree on Azir
One of the commenters even came up with the perfect skin – a “Prestige Demon King Azir”, this being a nod to one of Faker’s nicknames, “Unkillable Demon King.” Also, Azir is one of the main champions that the player plays, further making him the best choice to receive a potential unique cosmetic item. According to Leaguepedia, Faker chose Azir five times at the World Championship and is tied with Orianna. Considering the over four thousand likes the comment received, it’s safe to say the community agrees with the choice.
Azir has also been crucial in Faker’s recent successes, not only at LoL Worlds 2023 but in his rise in competitive League as a whole over the past few months. In September Faker started once again climbing to Rank 1 in the Korean Solo queue, after staying away from competitive play for a long while.
However, T1’s mid-laner has not yet chosen the champion for whom he wants his skin made. Unlike his teammates, who did so in a post-interview on November 19, Faker refrained from picking a specific champion. Instead, he claimed he wanted a skin his fans would enjoy. This is in contrast to the fact he has previously requested skins for Zed, Ryze, and Syndra in 2013, 2015, and 2016, respectively.
Whatever Riot Games decides to do, the fact that Faker is the first and only player to win four World Championships has already gone down in history.
