Wild Rift Will Return to Brazil Next Year for a $246,000 Tournament

in League of Legends
December 15, 2021
  • Brazil will be the host of the Wild Rift in 2022 again
  • The open qualifiers have slots for more than 1000 teams total
  • The eight best teams will join the four teams from the last championship in the playoffs

Brazil will once again be hosting the League of Legends: Wild Rift tournament in 2022, and this time participants will fight to win prizes from the quarter-million-dollar prize pool.

Wild Rift Returns to Brazil

League of Legends: Wild Rift, the mobile version of Riot Games' flagship title, had its first-ever world championship last month. It featured a prize pool of $500 000, and with its recent conclusion, fans have been anticipating information about any future events.

They have to wait no longer, as information surfaced that Brazil will be the first region for the 2022 Wild Tour. It will have a pool of 1.4 million Brazilian Real, which is about $246,300. The competition will feature open qualifiers leading to a group stage and the playoffs. Perhaps what is the best news for both players and esports fans alike, is that the tournament will be held live. Besides the open qualifiers, all other matches will be held in front of a live audience at the Riot Games studio in São Paulo, Brazil.

Este ano foi um sucesso, mas o nosso cenário competitivo tá só começando! Olha o que nos espera no #WildTour 2022:

What Will the Tournament’s Format Be?

The 2022 Wild Rift championship will feature a much longer format with the group stage being divided across 10 weeks, unlike the 2021 version. Fans will be able to tune in online to watch the event, which will be broadcast every Friday and Saturday, from 4 pm CT (7 pm local time) on Twitch, YouTube, and Nimo TV, from the Riot Games studio.

Registration for the two open qualifiers opens on January 5, with the first qualifier happening from January 13 to January 16. The second one will be between January 20 and 23. Each of the qualifiers will have slots for up to 512 teams in a single-elimination bracket and the four best teams from each qualifier will be able to advance to the Wild Tour Brazil. These eight qualified teams will be joining the top four teams of the Wild Tour 2021, which are TSM, Só Agradece, DreamMax, and Liberty.

These 12 teams will be divided into groups of six and will compete in a best-of-three format in the 10 weeks spanning February 10 to April 23. Only the four best teams will be able to continue to the playoffs. There the format will be a best-of-five format, except for the finals, which will be a best-of-seven.

Here’s the schedule for the Wild Tour Brazil:

Group stage: Feb. 18 to April 23

  • Week one: Feb 18 and 19
  • Week two: Feb. 25 and 26
  • Week three: March 4 and 5
  • Week four: March 11 and 12
  • Week five: March 18 and 19
  • Week six: March 25 and 26
  • Week seven: April 1 and 2
  • Week eight: April 8 and 9
  • Week nine: April 15 and 16
  • Week ten: April 22 and 23

Playoffs: May 5 to 8.
