- T1 triumphs over Kwangdong Freeks with a clean 2-0
- The Kwangdong Freecs stood their ground in the first 30 minutes of the game
- Their defeat might be due to a relatively untested roster composition
T1 is starting the 2022 League season strong, by beating Kwangdong Freecs 2-0, and all this despite not making a single change to their roster from last year.
T1 Marks a Clean Victory
The 2022 LCK just began, and T1 is already set for a good season. On the opening day, they came up against the Kwangdong Freecs, over which they triumphed with a 2-0. With this fast win, the Worlds 2021 semifinalists have again proven their reputation as a team to be reckoned with.
T1 went up against one of their former members – AD carry T1, who now plays for the Freecs. The 23-year-old player and his team had a tough task ahead of them. T1 opened up with a lot of aggression, which they kept on during the whole game. Despite that, the Kwangdong Freecs held their ground, which led to a slow start to the best-of-three series. For the first half an hour of the match, it was still anyone’s game, but T1 eventually came on top.
How the Game Turned Out
The turning point came around the 33rd-minute mark when T1 managed to grab control of the Baron. Despite the Freeks holding their ground, just three minutes later their opponent claimed the Elder Dragon and scored an ace. After that T1 quickly ran through the map and destroyed the enemy Nexus.
With the score sitting at 1-0 in favor of T1, the Kwangdong Freecs and Teddy had some catching up to do. The first win of the 2022 LCK was at stake here, however, it seems the Freecs might have lost some of their morale after the first lost round, as the second one was dominated by T1.
Oner had some major problems in the jungle. Nevertheless, he came back and pulled himself and the bottom lane duo in the lead, while swooping under the Kwangdong Freecs’ turret. Soon after T1 won the next skirmish and took control of objectives across the map. This lightning war soon resulted in Kwangdong’s defeat.
The Kwangdong Freecs’ defeat could be attributed to the relatively new roster composition. The odds were stacked against KF from the beginning. In November last year, they had to revamp their entire roster due to poor performance in the 2021 season. On top of that, they faced off against one of the strongest teams in the LCK, who finished fourth in the Worlds 2021.
