Riot Teams Up with Nerd St, Wisdom Gaming for Wild Rift Summoner Series

in League of Legends
July 15, 2021
  • The Wild Rift Summoner Series will get more interesting with Nerd Street and Wisdom Gaming joining in as partners
  • Riot Games will host the event in three circuits leading to the Regional Championships
  • The first circuit begins on July 26 and will set the best teams on a course to the finals

The Wild Rift Summoner Series event will be produced in collaboration with Nerd Street Gaming and Wisdom Gaming.

Riot Brings in Trusted Partners to Help with Wild Rift Summoner Series

Riot Games has teamed up with Nerd Street and Wisdom Gaming to host the North American League of Legends: Wild Rift Summoner Series. As per the partnership, the companies will be tasked with the design, production, and registration for the upcoming MOBA showdown in October.

The Wild Rift: Summoner Series is a part of Riot Games' efforts to popularize the game organically without weighing in too much on the game's natural progression. The Summoner Series will be available to all players from North America, with the events played in three circuits and the last chance qualifier before progressing to the Regional Championships. This coincides with an increase in the esports events announced for the game, with Oceania currently hosting a series of open qualifiers for the ESL Mobile Open.

Riot Games is allocating a $35,000 prize pool since a smaller amount by what other games command, but enough to whet the appetite for the upcoming competitive action. As the first competitive event for the game, Riot Games is keen to get everything right. The event comes against a backdrop of Wild Rift's growth in new markets, including Brazil and potentially Southeast Asia, where the game's main rival, Moonton, is trying to keep things under control.

Company Head of Esports for North America, Chris Greeley, said that Riot Games had picked Nerd Street and Wisdom Gaming because of the successful collaborations the companies have had over the years.

“We are excited to combine their talents to deliver our inaugural Wild Rift competition,” Greeley noted. Moreover, Greeley is convinced that through their combined expertise, these two companies would ensure that the Wild Rift: Summoner Series turn into a success.

Offering Players a Fair Shot at Success

While the finals and more advanced stages of play are set for October, the first of the three circuits will kick off on July 26. For each circuit, players will have to go through two open qualifiers and a major, which will reunite the four top teams from the qualifiers. Then, the first four teams in the first Major will go directly to the second Major.

The second and third Major events will help teams qualify for the NA Regional Championships. There are no challenges expected on an organizational level, even though Nerd Street is new to hosting events in the mobile gaming space.

Company VP of Esports Stephen Csikos though argued that Nerd Street's commitment to growing its offering and reaching new audiences remained a priority for the company.

“The opportunity to work alongside Riot to help structure and create their mobile esports program for Wild Rift in NA is an important step for us as it allows both companies to grow the mobile space within North America,” Csikos added.

As Wild Rift readies up for its first serious event hosted in collaboration with Riot Games, teams such as Nexplay Esports and TSM FTX are already looking for players who are able to raise their profile in the game.
