Riot revealed a new Zaunite champion – Zeri, the Spark of Zaun. Armed with a gun and electric magic, Zeri will soon wreak havoc in League of Legends.
Riot Reveals A New LoL Champion
Riot Games revealed a new champion coming to its famous MOBA game League of Legends. Along with an exclusive splash art, Riot also revealed the champion’s name – Zeri, the Spark of Zaun.
Zeri will be an AD carry champion but not much is known about her gameplay yet. Furthermore, no exact date of Zeri’s release has been given by Riot. However, the developers teased quite a few things about her story.
As her name implies, Zeri will represent the undercity district of Zaun. According to Riot, she originates from the backwater district’s working-class and harbors a deep love for the town. Zeri is described as a caring yet spirited young woman who uses a custom weapon mixed with electric magic to fall her enemies.
Riot gave a bit of back lore for Zeri’s powers, explaining that she has been blessed with electric magic since she was born. According to her description, her electric powers are related to her emotions and she can sometimes cause entire outrages. Zeri is a rather controversial figure as her passionate personality inspires some but the havoc she causes annoys others.
Zeri Stands With Zaun
It was revealed that one terrible incident inspired Zeri to find a cause worth fighting for – a cause for which her powers can be put into good use.
Riot explained that a careless excavation by the notorious chem-barons caused a landslide which destroyed several buildings. Zeri helped to save some of the survivors who were trapped beneath the rubble but couldn’t save everyone.
This inspired her to oppose the chem-barons and their careless mining operations. She started hitting the chem-barons’ supply lines. Sometimes she was successful, others she was not. Regardless of when Zeri managed to finish the job, people began to love her and see her as a hero.
The signature gun Zeri is armed with was a gift by her mother who wanted to help her with her daughter’s noble cause.
As a last tease, Riot implied that Zeri’s backstory will somehow be related to Ekko’s. Since both of them originate from Zaun, it will be interesting to see what twists the developers have in store.
