Riot Games Teases League of Legends’ Next Champion

in League of Legends
June 19, 2022
  • The company released a short teaser on Twitter showing a mysterious silhouette
  • Fans have started theorizing who this new champion might be
  • Earlier leaks have suggested she is called Nilha and has a whip made of water as her weapon

League of Legends fans have been speculating who might the game’s next champion be after Riot released a 12-second teaser, showing a mysterious figure amidst ship debris.

Riot Teases Potential New Champion

One of the reasons League of Legends is so successful is developer Riot Game’s efforts in constantly updating the game with various patches, champions, and cosmetic items. Not only that, but the marketing staff at Riot also know how to conjure up hype for whatever the company is planning next. The latest teaser the studio released is no exception to that, as it might point to League’s next champion.

With just a quick 12’second clip uploaded on League of Legends’ official Twitter page, Riot got fans wondering what is the company planning next. The video shows a dark misty environment littered with what appears to be debris from destroyed ships. Then, a shadowy figure walks toward the camera through the darkness, before the video cuts out. And with a caption reading “The waters of life flow on forever. Whose story will they tell?” fans are already theorizing who this potential champion might be.

What Are Fans Speculating?

After seeing the short clip, fans started discussing who might we see in League in the near future. According to some, this will be the game’s upcoming melee AD carry champion. It was hinted in this year’s April Champion Roadmap as a “colorful but deadly stranger who came to Runeterra from a land across the seas.”

Adding to this theory are some leaks that have surfaced in prior weeks that suggest the new champion’s name is Nilah. Apparently, she is armed with a whip-like weapon made of water, fitting the overall maritime theme of the teaser and Riot’s Champion Roadmap description. Additionally, if one compares the silhouette from the trailer with leaked images from the champion, one can see similarities with the robes, cropped hairstyle, and the water orb on her hip.

Twelve seconds is simply not enough to ascertain anything, but the clues so far add up. This is yet another thing added to the hype train, along with League of Legends coming to the Xbox Game Pass, that fans can look forward to in the upcoming weeks and months.
