- Riot Games’ hit TV series Aracne won great praise from both fans and critics
- Fans are eagerly waiting for the show’s second season
- Riot’s CEO Nicolo Laurent confirmed Arcane S2 is not going to be released in 2023
Despite Arcane’s massive popularity, there has not been much information about the show’s second season, which was recently confirmed that it would not be released this year.
Arcane S2 Won’t Be Arriving in 2023
Adapting video games for cinema or TV has now always had a good connotation to it, with fans often seeing the final product as unsatisfactory, or just downright cringe. However, we have recently seen some video-game-based TV shows that defy that expectation and deliver an experience true to the original game.
Arcane is one of these shows, with the Riot TV series getting a ton of praise from critics and League of Legends fans. Since its debut in late 2021, Arcane has received multiple rewards from various organizations, most notably becoming the first streaming series to win an Emmy award for animation.
With so much praise and hype surrounding Riot Games’ hit TV series, fans have been wondering when the second season of Arcane will start streaming. While the show was initially streaming, the company had already confirmed that Arcane’s Season 2 is in development. However, more than a year after it first aired, Riot has not talked much about the new season nor given a specific date for its release.
Riot CEO Talks About Season 2
It's no surprise that fans are anxious to learn the release date of the show’s new season. There has recently been some news on the matter, but unfortunately for many, they will not be able to see Arcane in 2023. This became clear from a recent interview that Riot’s CEO Nicolo Laurent did with longtime LPL caster Guan Ze Yuan, on Bilibili.
Laurent confirmed that the series’ sequel season is currently in the works, but revealed that fans won’t be getting it. The reason for this is that Riot was somewhat unprepared for Arcane’s success and did not plan a second season for the show right off the bat.
“Honestly, we didn’t know if season 1 was gonna be a success,” Riot’s CEO explained. “If I had known, we could have started season 2 way earlier. But we didn’t know, so we kind of waited a bit. Now we’re paying the price. So, it’s unfortunately not going to be this year.”
Despite the bad news that fans will have to wait until next year to see the continuation of the hot series, there is a silver lining to it all – Arcaner’s production value. Laurent shared that he had already seen episode 3 of the second season and he was quite happy with it. He further explained that Riot wants to not rush the series so as to be able to deliver a quality product.
