  • Damwon Gaming is opening its first LCK game against KT Rolster
  • KT has had a bad season in 2021 and has replaced its roster
  • Damwon Gaming has had roster changes, but it has kept its most valuable players onboard

Damwon Gaming KIA will be walking out against KT Rolster on Thursday, January 13 in what should be an easy opener for DWG. KT Rolster did well in 2020 but their performance in 2021 flagged with the teams securing #7 in the LCK 2021 Spring and Summer Splits.

There doesn’t seem to be much that KT Rolster can do against DWG, but there are a few details that are still worth looking at. After all, DWG did go through some roster change and the dynastical players who helped push the team to the very top of the competitive LCK pecking order have now left, bar a few important powerbrokers.

DWA KIA is given a 75% chance to win and KT Rolster will have few opportunities to make any measurable impact on their opponents. That is if all goes according to expectations. In esports betting, there are no such promises.

KT Rolster (Jan 13, 2022)

KT Rolster definitely had a tough run in the season, and they finished #7 in both the LCK 2021 Summer and Spring Splits. The teams struggled to win most of their games, posting identical 7-11 and 6-12 results in each split respectively.

This expectedly led to the team choosing to replace their entire roster in November and December 2021. The only player from before is Kim ”GIDEON” Min-seong who joined in February last year.

Everyone else though is new. Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee, Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan, Lee “Aria” Ga-eul, Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram, and Kim “Life” Jeong-min may not have the same star power as many of the other teams’ rosters, but they are definitely looking to do their best under the KT Rolster.

KT will be fighting for a chance to break into the top five teams in the LCK this year and this is understandable, given an entire season of subdued performance. However, the fear is that these players do not possess the same depth and understanding of the game, or in the very least, they would not be able to demonstrate it quickly.

Damwon Gaming Preview (Jan 13, 2022)

Damwon Gaming are a well-oiled machine and even though they are also going through the motions this season, they had no trouble of topping the LCK last year. The runner-ups to the 2021 Worlds are not likely to let up.

The original roster helped DWG make it to the finals of the Worlds twice, and that is definitely noteworthy. However, most of the team has parted ways, although Canyon and ShowMaker decided to stay, and they are largely seen as the most important pieces of the puzzle.

They have both won back-to-back MVP awards and this puts them in a strong position for the upcoming match. Unless DWG show an atypically ill-calculated play, we expect them to win.
