- Riot announced new visual changes coming to League’s ranks
- Silver and Gold ranks will look more distinct
- This is only part of the changes coming with Patch 12.2
Ranked representation in League will soon undergo a slight overhaul. Changes should take effect later this week along with the release of a new champion and skins.
Rank Borders and the New Challenges Feature
With the start of this year’s LCS, Riot Games is still making changes to the game, that will affect every ranked playing player. Some of these were outlined on Twitter by Jordan Checkman, a lead designer at the company.
“We're working on some improvements to ranked representation in League after all the helpful feedback we received since launch,” wrote Checkman, announcing Riot will be adding ranked division displays back to the Lobby, Profile, Loading Screen, and Hovercards. More ranked representation changes will come in the form of new rank borders. Once the features go live, likely with patch 12.2 which we will discuss a bit later, Gold and Bronze should be made to be more differentiated. This should fix the problem with higher rank borders not seeming “prestigious enough”.
“League is never complete. We ship a new game every two weeks,” wrote Checkman, regarding the upcoming changes.
It seems Riot has been looking for quite some time now to better represent players' achievements. Recently, the studio released the Challenges feature. After its arrival, players will be able to win various titles by completing different tasks, which can be showcased throughout the game. The new changes may be released with Patch 12.2, which goes live later this week.
What Else Is New in Patch 12.2?
As Checkman wrote, League is a constantly changing game, having minor updates every couple of weeks. The new patch is expected to go live on January 20. As it is with most updates, this one will also have various champions and abilities being tweaked. Plox, a designer on the Summoner's Rift team, summarizes them below:
Another champion-related change coming to the game is Zeri: The Spark of Zaun. She’s an AD carry champion armed with an electric gun. Unlike a gameplay hook or concept art “Zeri began her life as a gun,” as said in Riot’s official update.
And for players who want to change their favorite champion’s outfit, there are new skins coming to League. The Porcelain League skins will allow players to change the appearance of Amumu, Kindred, Lissandra, Lux, and Ezreal with motives inspired by fine china. Additionally, Lux will also have a Prestige Skin coming with the update.
With many visual updates and a new champion, Riot is starting 2022 strong, and hying fans for the ongoing League of Legends Championship Series.
