  • Riot and Amazon Prime Gaming will continue working together in 2023
  • The new capsules will start being released this month
  • Both companies have not yet finalized what the capsules will include later in the year

Following three weeks of uncertainty, Riot dev Andrei “Meddler” van Roon explained what this year’s LoL Prime Gaming capsules would look like.

Riot and Amazon Will Continue Collaborating

The last couple of years saw a Riot Games and Amazon Prime Gaming collaboration that allowed League of Legends players who were also Amazon Prime members to redeem monthly capsules for League full of RP, champion shards, a skin, and others. The collaboration saw great success but in early 2023, rumors that both companies will end the deal started circulating.

These rumors were fueled in large part thanks to a conversation that YouTube creator Matty Love Gaming had with an Amazon employee. According to that employee, the deal between Riot and Amazon was only expected to last until December 2022 with an extension decided upon to end the collaboration on February 16.

Players were naturally dissatisfied with the news, but Riot Games later stepped in to clarify that the deal between the two companies was not ending. Instead, Riot dev Andrei “Meddler” van Roon explained in a response to a Reddit post about the situation that the two companies are figuring out the future of the deal. “In the long term, we’re still figuring out whether something’s possible and if so what it might look like (though it’s unlikely to be the same as the 2022 version),” he wrote. “We’ll share the new details with you as soon as we’ve got something concrete.”

There Will Be Some Major Changes to LoL Capsules

A few weeks following that post, Meddler finally revealed details about how the future of LoL Prime capsules would work. He explained that new capsules would begin releasing this month and will be fairly similar to last year, with a few major changes. For example, mythic Essence and champion shards will be removed and will be replaced by a mystery ward skin and a permanent champion in each capsule.

Meddler also explained that both companies have not finalized what the capsules will include and that this will be finalized in mid-year. This means that the capsules will most likely change until summer arrives. “We’ll likely have some more changes to the League capsules this year, but we’ll keep you posted,” Meddler wrote. In addition to the expected changes, the Riot dev also explained that SEA players will be able to connect their Amazon accounts to also receive Prime Gaming capsules, which is something they couldn’t do before.

Despite the reassurance that Riot and Amazon will continue collaborating this year, some fans are already dissatisfied with the upcoming content. Many want the return of Mythic essence, while others have asked the devs to increase gained Riot Points to 650 from 350.

Time will tell if Riot Games hears the plight of the fans.

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
