BRION Esports' LCK roster retiring.

Fredit BRION Releases Almost Its Entire LOL Roster

in League of Legends
November 21, 2022
  • BRION has parted ways with four of its players
  • Only one player remains from BRION’s 2022 lineup
  • The organization extended its contracts with two of its coaches

Following a disappointing year in the LCK, Fredit BRION will be rebuilding its LoL roster almost from the ground up.

BRION Releases Four Players

The time between competitive League of Legends seasons is a period of restructuring and thinking about future strategies. Sometimes, this means a large number of players must be released and this is what happened to four of the Korean esports organization Fredit BRION’s now-former members.

On November 20, the LCK organization announced it is releasing four players. These are top laners laners Choi “Sw0rd” Sung-won and Park “Morgan” Ru-han, mid laner Kim “Lava” Tae-hun, and support Yu “Delight” Hwan-jung. Coach Kim “Kite” Yong-yeon, who was Kim “Kite” Yong-yeon, has also parted ways with the organization.

The only player still left is Park “Hena” Jeung-hwan and it seems BRION is going to rebuild its force for the 2023 competitive season around him. The organization retained two members of its coaching staff—head coach Choi “Edgar” Woo-beom and coach Lee “Drinker” Seung-hoo. Both have re-signed their contracts for the next season of LoL.

What’s Next for the Organization?

Releasing most of the players in its roster is a pretty bold move on part of BRION, but it seems the organization thinks it’s worth it. One could say that the organization has nothing to lose with this move, considering they have not seen much success since the team joined the LCK franchise in 2021.

BRION has always been at the end of the standings, always ending up around the ninth or tenth place. Perhaps the biggest success the team saw this year was when it managed to get into playoffs with an 8-10 record in the spring.

The LCK’s free agency period begins on Monday, November 21, so BRION can officially look to lock its next set of players. The organization should have a decent pool of players to choose from in order to rebuild its roster, as many talents from the LCK and the LCK Challengers League are now going to be available. It will be interesting to see if the organization is going to choose young talents to fill up its ranks, or if it’s going to bet on tried and tested veterans.
