Evil Geniuses End the First LCS Lock In Event with a Win over Immortals

in League of Legends
January 17, 2022
  • Evil Geniuses stand undefeated at the end of the first LCS Lock In weekend of 2022
  • This is done despite their relatively young and inexperienced roster
  • Their final rivals for the Lock In, Immortals, end with a poor 0-3 performance

With an impressive 3-0 record, the Evil Geniuses remain undefeated after a triumphant victory over Immortals in the 2022 LCS Lock In Tournament.

Evil Geniuses’ Young Players Blow the Competition Away

This year’s LCS has started and teams are fighting to get points in the Lock In Tournament. With a 3-0, Evil Geniuses are one of the best-performing teams so far. On Sunday they consolidated their position with an impressive win against the Immortals. It was anyone’s game as both teams had their rosters go through a lot of changes in recent months, especially EG, who recently had new head coaches being assigned. (тука може да се сложи другата ми статия за ЕГ)

Evil Geniuses fielded a rather young team. It’s not just that most of their players are untested but they’re also physically quite young, an example being 17-year-old rookie Joseph “jojopyun” Joon Pyun. All eyes were on him and he delivered a decent performance. The older more experienced generation did not allow him to show his immense mechanical talent to the highest degree. Nevertheless, jojopyun showed a great feel for the game, albeit overzealous at times.

At just a year older, AD carry Danny, who was playing with Jinx, also performed well, albeit often being somewhat reckless in the head-on fights he took.

The Evil Geniuses marked a 6K gold advantage by the 15th minute, largely with the help of yet another very young player, namely 19-year-old former LEC MVP Inspired. Despite a rough start, he and 22-year-old Vulcan, one of the more experienced team members, who was playing Bard, managed to catch Immortals everywhere on the map.

What’s Next for EG and Immortals?

With their final victory, Evil Geniuses solidified their first spot in the B-group. Meanwhile, they sent the Immortals at the bottom, who now stand at a 0-3 record. The team seems to want to go a similar route as EG and build a young roster around 22-year-old Revenge, but it seems they still have some restructuring and/or training to do. However, they are retaining veteran PowerOfEvil and WildTurtle in the mid lane and AD carry positions, respectively.

Analysts say Immortals failed due to their lack of cohesion. The season just started, so the team will have many other chances to redeem themselves. Their next match will be against Team Liquid on Friday, January 21, 5:30 PM ET.

As it stands currently, it’s shaping up to be a strong season for Evil Geniuses. However, they are not the only rookies fans should watch out for. Here are some of their potential young rivals.
