  • The three champions will get nerfs in LoL’s next balancing patch
  • Meanwhile, five other champions will be buffed
  • Riot has yet to announce what these changes will look like

In preparation for the 2023 competitive season, Riot Games is getting ready to implement a lot of nerfs on the three outlier champions.

Balances Coming to Patch 12.21

League of Legends is a constantly changing game, with champions being constantly buffed or nerfed. Well, the unlucky trio? of Bel’Veth, Blitzcrank, and Miss Fortune are the next ones that have pulled the short end of the straw and will be receiving nerfs in League’s Patch 12.21.

It’s still unknown what exactly these nerfs will be, but developer Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison said Riot chose these three champions in particular because they’ve become “significant outliers” in regards to win rate and impact. “Patch is short and sweet this week. Only addressing significant outliers that aren’t overly affected by [preseason] changes,” he said.

By winning 53.25%, Great Steam Golem has outlined himself as the biggest “outliner”. Furthermore, according to stats aggregator U.GG, Blitzcrank is banned in a third of lobbies. Bel’Veth and Miss Fortune follow closely behind, winning 51.9 and 51.79% of games respectively, and rank highly in their roles when it comes to League pick and ban rates.

The pirate queen’s upcoming nerfs are also coming, quite possibly, due to her early priority at the League World Championship. She was quite a popular pick during the tournament’s play-ins as according to Gol.gg, she has been picked in 24 Worlds matches. For comparison, Bel’Veth was played seven times and Blitzcrank twice.

Speaking of Bel’Veth, the Empress of the Void may be the biggest offender on this list. While Blitzcrank is quite popular amongst high-ranking players, and Miss Fortune dominates low-elo games, Bel’Veth’s dominance can be felt at all levels of the game. While Riot Games has not disclosed any details of what the nerfs will look like, it’s safe to say that Bel’Veth’s “snowball” potential and scalling would be significantly impacted.

But nerfs aren’t the only thing coming to Patch 12.21. Players whose’ main champions are Ahri, Corki, Malzahar, Xin Zhao, or Rumble, will be pleasantly surprised that their mains will be receiving buffs. As with the unlucky trio, Riot has not disclosed in what way these five champions will be changed. We will just have to wait and see what the company will announce in the near future.
