By signing Landon “Landon” McGee, London Spitfire now has a guaranteed in-person player in the North American scene.

Landon Joins Spitfire

As the Overwatch League is fast approaching, organizations are scrambling to make last-minute adjustments and additions to their rosters. The London Spitfire is no exception and the organization has recently signed North American support Landon “Landon” McGee.

Formerly known as “Kittyking”, the American player excels at Baptiste and Brigitte, and as of April 30th, 2021, he has decided to be a Flex Support player. McGee’s latest gig was playing for Northwood University in the collegiate circuit and Solaris in Overwatch Contenders. He comes to Spitfire just at the right time, after the organization parted ways with its previous flex support Owen “Prov1de” Warner, citing a “code of conduct violation.”

The 20-year-old Landon has played for many North American Overwatch Contenders teams like Susanoo, Ardour, and DarkMode NA. He also has a substantial amount of time playing at the collegiate level for Northwood University, which recently came in second place to Maryville Esports in the 2022 Overwatch Collegiate Championship Series. High-rank Overwatch players might also have heard of Landon, as he has often taken several spots at the very top of the North American support leaderboards each season.

Spitfire’s Hopes for the Future

London Spitfire signing an American player might be a bit strange. After all, the all-European team represents London City at the high-level Overwatch competitions. However, the team is currently playing out of Los Angeles, which poses some issues for European players.

Due to various visa issues stemming from world travel still recovering from the Covid-19 restrictions, many players still have difficulties traveling abroad. By signing a member from the US, London Spitfire assures that it will always have an in-person player. This might also be a start of a new policy by the team, which has had an abysmal 2021 season. The team has only one victory out of the 15 matches it had in the Overwatch League (World) last year.

Spitfire now hopes that working with Landon and main support Oliver “Admiral” Vahar as they head into the Overwatch League’s fifth season is the start of their redemption. Landon’s first challenge will be going up against San Francisco Shock on May 6.
