PUBG Developer Donates $200,000 to India’s COVID-19 Relief Efforts

South Korean gaming giant Krafton will contribute $200,000 to the relief efforts against COVID-19 in India, one of the biggest markets for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

The donation comes at a time when India is facing an unprecedented health epidemic brought on by the novel coronavirus that has been ramping up 379,257 new cases in the country and leading to 3,645 deaths daily.

Krafton donated the funds to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM Cares) Fund through the company’s subsidiary in the country.

According to a CNN report, India lacks the infrastructure to properly track the real toil COVID-19 has had in terms of victims, and the numbers are underreported the media claims. Commenting on the donation, Krafton chief executive Changhan Kim expressed his solidarity with the Indian people and said that the country was facing a challenging time, adding:

“We remain committed to supporting the efforts of the government in battling this unprecedented crisis. We hope our contribution to the PM CARES Fund will help the aid efforts currently operational on the ground.”

This token of goodwill comes despite the company’s game, PUBG Mobile, receiving a ban in India last year due to privacy concerns. Krafton is still trying to bring the game back, and through this small gesture, the company signals that it’s prepared to support its gaming community in any form.
