Women of Misfits Platform Sets Off to Inspire Women in Sports and Esports

in Industry
April 16, 2021
  • Misfits Gaming Group will be starting the Women of Misfits initiative
  • It will function with Misfits’ four pillars as a basis: mentorship, development, network, and advocacy
  • Special guest speakers will inspire innovation and creativity in women interested in sports and/or gaming

With 40% of gamers being women, the Misfits Gaming Group launched the Women of Misfits series to help and inspire them.

The Women of Misfits and the Organization’s Four Pillars

Global esports and entertainment company Misfits Gaming Group will be launching a platform focused on women called Women of Misfits. It will be led entirely by female executives from the MGG organization. The goal is to provide mentorship and inspiration for women interested in sports and esports.

Women of Misfits will function based on Misfits’ four core pillars:

  • Mentorship – Women will have other female mentors to guide them, give them advice, and help them realize their potential
  • Development – Influential female guest speakers will share their experience, inspire and motivate women
  • Network – A chain of information will be established to facilitate connections and let women share their experience
  • Advocacy – Although the initiative is centered on the MGG, it will not be limited to it but will try to commit to the wider industry

MGG Vice President of Communications Becca Henry spoke on the initiative:“We are incredibly excited with the endless opportunities these first two pillars represent. We want women to feel inspired and motivated to succeed with trusted mentors at their side cheering them on. Additionally, to hear from influential females who are trailblazing their paths to success through diverse sets of experience is tremendous, and we’re excited to kick things off with our first lineup of speakers.”

The Initial Development Series Lineup

Speaking of the second pillar, it will feature a monthly series with a different lineup of successful women each month. The series will air on MGG’s official YouTube channel. The initial speaker lineup has been announced and will include the following:

  • Angela Ruggiero: 4X Olympian and gold medalist for USA hockey
  • Bianca Smith: Coach for the Boston Red Sox
  • Glozell Green: Comedian, actress, and YouTuber
  • Maya Enista Smith: Executive director of the Born This Way Foundation
  • Chris Everet: American former world No.1 tennis player

As for the fourth pillar, advocacy, MGG Chief Revenue Officer Lagen Nash commented:

“Our network within MGG expands beyond esports and gaming to traditional sports and corporate America, and that is something we will utilize. In addition, we want to draw attention to the inequalities women face within the workplace and esports industry and celebrate initiatives that are working to drive change.”

MGG Chief Revenue Officer Lagen Nash

Women of Misfits is a nice initiative, adding up to the efforts of making the gaming community more inclusive and welcoming to all. With around 40% of gamers estimated to be female, it is good to have platforms to initiate them better in the community. More details about the platform and the list of female executives are available on Misfits’ official site.

With this very same passion for bringing the community together, Formula 1 recently announced a women-only qualifier event for F1 2020 esports to help girls interested in the professional competitive scene. Just two months ago, Riot, on the other hand, announced its Game Changers series. Moreover, with similar goals of broadening the community, Team SoloMid launched a collegiate program to help initiate younger enthusiasts in the professional esports world.
