A whole year of competition awaits fans of the Pittsburgh Knights organization, which has over 200 tournaments scheduled for 2022.
Pittsburgh Knights to Host 200 Events Throughout 2022
Pittsburgh Knights, a North American esports organization, revealed that it has great things planned for 2022. A plethora of esports events in some of the most popular esports titles is on the list.
According to the announcement, Pittsburgh Knights’ ambition is to host more than 200 different tournaments. It will cover VALORANT, Apex Legends, and Rocket League among other games. The tournaments will be produced and broadcast by Pittsburgh Knights’ event brand Knights Arena.
The most notable events will be quarterly tournaments in Apex Legends and Rocket League. Each of those will feature a prize pool of $10,000. It was announced that the first Apex quarterly event, the so-called Carnage Cup, will begin on February 19.
The Pittsburgh Knights will also host other monthly events in VALORANT and Halo. The latter will have prize pools of $5000 and $2000 respectively. Additionally, there will be bi-monthly tournaments in women’s VALORANT with a $2000 prize pool.
The organization will also host weekly tournaments in VALORANT (a $1000 prize pool per event), Halo (a $500 prize pool per event), and Rocket League (a $300 prize pool per event). The Knights will also host smaller online weekly tournaments on Discord.
Pittsburgh Knights’ Mission is to Nurture Grassroots Esports
Jasper Ko, the Pittsburgh Knights’ event coordinator, said that the organization is very proud of its saturated schedule.
“A core goal of the Knights is to share esports. We want to give people the tools, access, and opportunities to play competitively – to hone their skills, meet like-minded players, and have a chance to be seen by top teams.”
Garett Bambrough, the organization’s general manager, emphasized the need to provide opportunities to smaller teams as well. He pointed out that the bigger organizations tend to focus only on the top players, ignoring the grassroots-level athletes.
Bambrough added that the Pittsburgh Knights’ 2021 events were a great success and provided many aspiring professionals with the needed exposure to get them signed to organizations.
We want to serve the bulk of the competitors and not focus on solely the top percentage of players. The competitive scene will not thrive unless the amateur scene is taken care of.”
Just like real knights, the Pittsburgh Knights have a noble goal. Professional level esports continues to grow as a global phenomenon but we mustn’t forget to provide opportunities to the next generation of esports players.
