NBA Champion Durant joins Andbox and Invests in NY Subliners

in Industry
March 16, 2021
  • NBA champion Kevin Durant joins the Andbox group, owning the New York Subliners team
  • The basketball star will collaborate with competitive players for all kinds of events
  • President of Andbox says he is delighted to be working with Durant

Famous basketball player Kevin Durant joins the esports scene as an investor.

Kevin Durant’s Thirty Five Ventures Join Forces with Andbox

Kevin Durant is a 32-years old basketball player who has been an NBA champion not just once but two times. He is currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets and has an investment group called Thirty Five Ventures. Durant apparently seeks to expand his business into the esports scene as well. The NBA superstar will be joining Andbox – a group that owns the Call of Duty franchise New York Subliners. This was tweeted yesterday by NY Subliners themselves:

.@KDTrey5 / @richkleiman🤝 @andbox_official

Welcome to the family Kevin Durant, Rich Kleiman and @35Ventures.

There's no bigger stage #NewYork #NYSL #EverUpwardhttps://t.co/LKNsAWf1Tf

— NYSL (@Subliners) March 15, 2021

Durant is known as a Call of Duty and NBA 2K player. Thus it’s hardly surprising that the sports star and his business partner Rich Kleiman decided to invest in the esports scene.

Durant said that the passion of New York fans is something he adores, be it in sports or esports. He noted that he is happy to find that Andbox is “bringing that same energy” and added that because of it, Thirty-Five Ventures is excited to collaborate.

As an Andbox partner, the NBA champion will collaborate with competitive players for all kinds of online and live events, produce merchandise, and will raise brand awareness as a whole.

Andbox’ Goal to Drive the NY Market Forward

Andbox mentioned they are delighted to working with Durant and seeing what he will bring to the table. They said that his performance alongside some of the pros in esports would be something that can be enjoyed by both gamers and basketball fans.

Andbox seems to be steadily expanding its business. The company owns the New York Excelsior Overwatch team and partners with other big stars such as Michael Jordan and content creators such as CDNThe3rd and Bobby Plays.

Farzam Kamel, president of Andbox, considers the global hub that is New York to be the biggest stage for competition. When it comes to youth culture, media or sports, there is no market bigger than the New York-Tri State area. Yet, Kamel believes this very same market has long been overlooked. Now the company president is seeking to change that.

And Andbox seems to be succeeding in that dream as the NY Subliners just took third place in the recent first Call of Duty major for the year. Their other team NY Excelsior is now preparing for the Overwatch League premiering mid-April.
