Here’s Why You Aren’t Receiving Your Twitch Recap

in Industry
December 16, 2021
  • At the end of each year, Twitch users usually receive recaps of their activities on the site
  • This contains valuable information for streamers, but some aren’t receiving their recaps
  • Twitch Support explains this has to do with users not subscribing to marketing emails

As the year is coming to a close, many websites are offering users a recap of their activities throughout 2021. This includes Twitch. However, many users have not received the anticipated rundown, and the Amazon-owned company explains why.

Users Aren’t Getting Their Recaps

It’s that time of the year again when platforms are sending their users a recap of what happened on the site. Twitch also has this feature, but this year there seems to be the problem of some people not receiving it. Usually, streamers receive information of what the top categories throughout the year were, how many hours they were live, how many followers they've gained, most used chat emotes, and many other useful stats.

Viewers, on the other hand, receive information about the number of messages they've sent, top watched categories, channel points earned, and also information about their top five most-watched channels.

You did a lot on Twitch this year, and we’ve got the recaps to prove it.

To make sure you get yours this week:
✔️ Go to your Twitch settings.
✔️ Check that you’re opted in to Twitch Marketing Emails
✔️ Get your recap and rejoice. pic.twitter.com/ROfIyKf12m

— Twitch (@Twitch) December 13, 2021

All of this information can be useful to streamers, or just a source of interesting facts for viewers. It is sent out by a simple automated email that Twitch sends out to users. However, the problem is not everyone is receiving them, and Twitch has revealed why that’s the case.

Twitch Explains Why Some Users Are Not Receiving Their Recaps

The issue of users not receiving their information was first brought up by a Twitter user asking Twitch Support.

@TwitchSupport didnt get the recap email because i had the notification turned off can you send one to: runspeeder25

— runspeed er (@runspeeder25) December 15, 2021

To this, Twitch swiftly responded by saying that if the user has turned off their marketing preferences, they will not be able to receive the recap. “Hey! I’m afraid if your marketing preferences weren’t enabled, you won’t be eligible for a Twitch recap this year,” said Twitch Support.

A few hours later Twitch Support made an official announcement, explaining the situation. They said that users who have opted out of their marketing emails before will not be able to get their recap. The system is automated, so Twitch staff will not be able to manually re-send recaps.

We're seeing some confusion about the recap.

In order to receive the Recap you had to opt-in for marketing emails prior to them being sent. Unfortunately, we aren't able to manually re-send recaps.

If you opted in, check your inbox and spam folder in the coming hours! https://t.co/N84HhhIGQB

— Twitch Support (@TwitchSupport) December 15, 2021

So, the “too long; didn't read” of the situation is that one won't be able to receive their Twitch recap unless they have already subscribed to a potential flood of spam emails. Of course, the platform is free to send recaps in any form they like, but perhaps they should have communicated the conditions better first.

Meanwhile, Twitch shared their own recap. Viewers spent 1.2 trillion minutes watching streamers this year while more than 14 million channels streamed for the first time. The top categories this year were once again Just Chatting, followed by Grand Theft Auto V, League of Legends, Valorant, and Minecraft.
