Garena Partners with Team Liquid for the First-Ever USA Free Fire Tournament

in Industry
June 1, 2021
  • The partnership between Garena and Team Liquid will yield the first Free Fire tournament in the states
  • It will aim to popularize the mobile game among western audiences
  • The Liquid Free Fire tournament’s qualifiers begin on June 5

The Liquid Free Fire tournament by Garena and Team Liquid will introduce esports fans in the states to one of the most popular battle royale games.

Free Fire Esports Comes to the USA

Singaporean game developer Garena and esports organization Team Liquid’s collaboration will be yielding the first Free Fire tournament in the United States. It will be called Liquid Free Fire and is planned as a series. The event will aim to popularize Free Fire among western audiences.

The first Liquid Free Fire will feature an open qualifier. The next 24 teams will move on to the main competition. The tournament will be held in June and will take up most of the month. The schedule is as follows:

  • June 5-6: Open qualifiers
  • June 12-13: Season matches
  • June 19-20: Season matches
  • June 26-27: Final stage

Registrations for the open qualifiers are currently open for all Free Fire enthusiasts. Out of all teams, only 24 will advance to the main stage and only 12 to the finals. The whole competition will be broadcasted on the official Team Liquid Twitch channel.

Players of all skill levels will have chances to earn in-game currency and season passes during the event. Free Fire producer Harold Teo shared his thoughts about the event:

“We are excited to welcome Free Fire players in the U.S. to put their skills to the test with the Liquid Free Fire Series. By partnering with Team Liquid, we look forward to bringing Free Fire esports to aspiring players and fans across the region.”

The Rise of Free Fire

Free Fire has seen steady growth in recent times. In the United States, it overshadowed PUBG mobile in terms of revenues for the first quarter of 2021, which isn’t a small feat, considering how big PUBG mobile is.

Being one of the largest esports organizations in the world, Team Liquid joined Free Fire in January 2020 with a roster of Brazilian players. The team later won the Free Fire Continental Series 2020 in November.

With Team Liquid’s well-known name and Free Fire’s rising popularity, the Liquid Free Fire has all prospects to become a successful series and expand the franchise in the States and beyond.

The game just held the finals of its World Series 2021, with Phoenix Force emerging as winners.
