  • BLAST has started the process of determining where it will host events in the next two years
  • The company has not revealed a lot of details about how the process works
  • However, it said it plans to expand its existing framework and expand into new territories

Cities around the world will vie for hosting the opportunity to host future BLAST tournaments as these events can bring a lot of income.

Process for Choosing Host Cities Starts

Creating esports events can take a long time and often their setup can start a year or more prior to the actual date of them taking place. For this reason, tournament organizer BLAST has started the process of deciding in which cities it will host its tournaments for 2025 and 2026.

The esports company plans to host more than 15 live arena esports events across five titles – Counter-Strike, Dota 2, Rainbow Six, Rocket League, and Fortnite. Each event will possibly be hosted in a different city, adding further complications in the process of choosing a host.

Considering esports have become quite popular in recent years, many cities have started noticing that they can be a big boost to tourism. For this reason, it’s expected that the competition to attract BLAST and its events will be quite fierce. For example, the Six Invitational 2024 in Sao Paulo, delivered over $13 million in economic impact for the Brazilian city, according to the esports org.

Esports can be a huge boost for a country’s economy as well and massive organizations like BLAST hosting events can be a large contributor to their GDP. One great example is a report from the Confederation of Danish Industry. According to it, the esports turnover for the country amounted to DDK 10 billion (about $1.45 billion) in 2022, showing how much finance is at play in the esports sector.

BLAST Plans to Expand

The tournament organizer has said that for the next two years, it wants to strengthen its existing markets and expand into new territories. For the entirety of 2024, BLAST will organize a total of 10 events so it’s safe to say that next year we may be witness to more tournaments.

The company has not yet revealed many details about the process of choosing host cities, but James Woollard, Director of Market Development at BLAST, commented on the practice. According to him, the tournament organizer is excited to work with previous and brand-new BLAST destinations. Judging by this, we may say that BLAST will be looking to host events in more cities that have previously not featured on the company’s list.

“BLAST is renowned for its unparalleled production quality, game-changing fan-first moments, and electric arena events. These events attract fans from all around the world and deliver multi-million dollar economic impacts for hosts along with many other social, cultural, and reputational benefits,” Woolard further explained.

“We make BLAST events around the world look and feel unique with the city at the heart of the show, and we look to forge long-term and strategic partnerships with destinations to meet their objectives.”

These are rather vague descriptions of BLAST’s process of choosing host cities so in the end fans will have to wait and see wat more information the company will release in the future.
