Barnsley College Re-affirms Its Place in Esports

As esports grows, so does the need for more professionals in the area to keep things going. For this reason, Barnsley College, based in the UK, has partnered with Grassroots Sports Academy. The aim of the project is to create over 100 work experience placements and job opportunities within esports.

Various Grassroots Sports Academy-run sports and esports venues within primary schools and community clubs will be where these exercises will take place. It is hoped that the venture will also provide benefits for “the children of Barnsley”.

According to the official statement, students will be able to learn skills needed to run competitions, clubs, and camps. Grassroots Sports Academy currently employs six Esports students, all of which have been recognized by some of the professionals in the industry. The overall aim of this partnership is to make sure its students leave education with employability skills and hands-on experience on a CV that will impress employers.

Officials Talk About the Project

“We are truly delighted to offer opportunities that may initially seem daunting. Many are apprehensive about securing work experience in unique industries such as Esports,” commented Enzo Guarini, Esports HE Pathway Leader at Barnsley College University Centre, about the new venture.

“By the time our students complete their courses, their CVs are enriched with digital skills, technical qualifications, and real industry experience. Imagine leaving college or higher education with a CV that boasts of delivering sessions to over 200 students, collaborating with industry experts in gaming, production, and marketing, and gaining practical experience in your field of study,” Guarini further added.

Grassroots Sports Academy’s Managing Director Chris Newton was equally as excited about the project. According to him, the deal will help the esports industry grow exponentially in Yorkshire. He also explained that the two sides started working on the project about 18 months ago with the aid of Barnsley College’s esports team which greatly sped up development. “This has led to us working together and putting plans in place to offer the students of the Esports course to have a career pathway with us in what we are trying to build. Watch this space for an event coming near you soon.”

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Barnsley College has made ventures into the world of esports. Back in January of last year, the educational institution partnered with Barnsley FC to organize esports tournaments and field a FIFA team.

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
