  • Activision has planned out the future of the franchise until 2027
  • There are four titles in development, one being released each of the next years
  • However, not much else, barring the bare essentials, has been revealed

Leaks over the past months have suggested which studios are developing the next CoD titles, with 2027’s devs being revealed recently.

CoD 2027’s Developers

The Call of Duty franchise is infamous for producing a new title almost every year. This is possible thanks to the fact that often different companies develop different games simultaneously. Considering making a fully-fledged CoD game could take two or more years, this practice allows devs enough time to complete a title while another studio releases one in the meantime.

With this being the case, fans sometimes wonder which studio would be working on the next iteration of the franchise. In the past, companies like Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, Raven Software, and Treyarch have been behind some of the most popular CoD games.

Activision has apparently planned out the future of the CoD franchise for the next three years, which begs the question of which of the aforementioned studios will develop Call of Duty’s 2027 entry. According to some recent leaks, that honor falls to Sledgehammer Games. However, this raised alarm in fans as they fear the game might share Modern Warfare III’s quality, which was not great as many complained of its lackluster campaign.

Perhaps this should be expected, as according to some rumors, the MWIII campaign was rushed, being completed in just 16 months, resulting in quite a bit of dissatisfaction among players. However, these claims were denied when a Sledgehammer executive stated that the studio spent years developing Modern Warfare 3. If that is indeed the case, it would seem even worse for Sledgehammer, as they would have had much more time to produce the game, yet the final product still seemed dissatisfactory for many fans.

What Else Do We Know About Future CoD Titles?

Of course, 2027 is still quite far away, which would hopefully give Sledgehammer enough time to make a good product. In the meantime, fans could expect three more games, which are set to be released every year. Although Activision and related developers have not said much about upcoming games yet, there have been a lot of leeks from which we can expect the following:

  • CoD 2024: set in the early 1990s and likely following events related to the Gulf War, the game is being developed by Treyarch and will likely soon be announced
  • CoD 2025: a direct sequel to Black Ops 2. It’s currently unknown what studio is developing it
  • CoD 2026: an Infinity Ward title, which is rumored to remain in its wildly popular Modern Warfare setting
  • CoD 2027: the aforementioned title developed by Sledgehammer Games

Of course, all of this is based on leeks that have come out over the past few months, so take the information with a pinch of salt.
