  • Four teams have already been invited for the last big Dota 2 tournament of the year
  • The other eight teams will be decided through various open and closed qualifiers
  • The event’s playoffs will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre

Malaysia’s capital will become host to the ESL One Kuala Lumpur, which will see twelve teams, including the current Dota 2 champs, compete for a slice of the $1 million prize pool.

Which Are the Teams?

Dota 2 fans will be quite happy in December as that month will see the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 take place in the Malaysian capital between December 11 and 17. While preparations for the event are ongoing, the organizer is gradually putting out information about it, including the teams that have been invited and have confirmed their positions. These are: Gamin Gladiators, LGD Gaming, Azur Ray, as well as Team Spirit who recently won The International 12.

There will be eight more teams that will be decided from the crucible of the open and closed qualifiers, scheduled to take place between 12th and 18th November. Once they have been established, the event will start with a three-day Group Stage featuring two groups of six teams each. They will compete in a single round-robin format with the top six squads from the group stage advancing to the live Playoffs. They will be a double elimination bracket.

What Else Is Important to Know?

The event’s last stage will be held live at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) 15th to 17th December. The venue, which can hold up to 47 000 concurrent visitors, will be the backdrop of the last big Dota 2 tournament of the 2023 calendar year and will feature a prize pool of $1 million.

ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 was announced in September with the theme called Rise Above Fate. Senior Marketing Creative at ESL FACEIT Group Carolin Linden said that the theme “draws inspiration from Kuala Lumpur’s mystic charm and rich folklore, inviting players and fans alike on a transformative journey.”

As with other large Dota 2 tournaments, this one can be viewed online through multiple platforms, such as the official ESL YouTube and Twitch channels. However, fans can also tune in to one of several dedicated broadcast partners. Of course, the event’s playoffs can also be viewed live, with various ticket options being available.

More information about the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 will be released in the following weeks so make sure to stay tuned for updates.
